Bleeding lightly for 7 days now

Hi all

wonder if someone can advise. About 6 weeks’ ago the GP put me on HRT due to high FSH levels (I’m 45 and reckon been in peri about 5 years). Anyway, he told me to wait until the first day of my period to start the progesterone, however my period didn’t seem to be happening. On day 38 or 39 of my cycle, I got in contact with the GP who told me to just take the HRT anyway. So since roughly 2.5 weeks ago I have been taking estrogen gel and progesterone tablets. Bleeding started before my 14 day break from progesterone. Now still bleeding (have stopped the progesterone for my 14 day break now). Is this normal?

Hi @Mummysgogetter HRT can take a few months to settle down. Yiu usually bleed when you stop the progesterone, just start the progesterone on the same date next month and take for 12-14 days. It will eventually create a HRT cycle.

Thanks Christine 👍 as this is all new to me, I get scared something is wrong.

I'm on gel and the tablet daily now and I've had light bleeding since I started the daily tablet. Menopause is a minefield!! X

Hi @Dawn1331 are you post menopausal? As taking progesterone everyday is for post menopausal women? If you are it can take 6 months for bleeding to settle down.

@Christine0708 my period was very sporadic and my Dr suggested going on proverb daily. I asked the pharmacist yesterday about it and she said the same as you that it can take 6 months. Both my grans went thru early menopause at 40 and I'm 46. Just wish we could get better information or dedicated menopause doctors at our wee local surgery x
