Early Menopause Clinic?

I'm 37 and have been referred to an early menopause clinic. Has anyone had any experience of this or know what to expect/what the point of it is really!? Is it just to get HRT?

Background

I've known I've had a diminished ovarian reserve for a number of years thanks to fertility tests a few years ago.. they said I was likely to go through EM. Sadly am yet to have children (although I have frozen some eggs so hopefully can still do so. Am in a new-ish relationship but we're not quite there yet re kids..). Periods were irregular in the sense of length of cycle varying but still once a month and normal ovulation etc until the end of last year.

I was also going through a very stressful time with exams in Jan and I went to Dr after having some hot flushes/night sweats and no period for about 60 days in Jan, next cycle was 50 days. Had two FSH readings a couple of months apart- 45 and then 69.. so Dr has referred me to EMC - apparently waiting list was months but I've got an appt end of July. He said the other hormone levels looked ok (I think he said Oestrogen and Testosterone?) and so it's too soon to give a formal diagnosis of Early Menopause but the clinic would be able to help more..

Any idea what to expect? Or anything I should ask?

I'm happy to have HRT as I've read I can conceive on it, but perhaps they'll have more advice?

I've recently had a 2 week holiday and for the first time this year felt all the usual ovulation symptoms and then had a period/normal cycle so guessing stress really does play a role in all of this, but suspect it's still EM on the way.. .

TIA

No experience as my GP refused to refer me aged 32 when my FSH tests were 56 and 29, with only two periods in 18 months.

It’s fantastic that you’ve been referred; hopefully you won’t have to wait too long for an appointment.

Same GP surgery wouldn’t prescribe HRT so I had to go private. That was aged 41, by which time I had developed osteoporosis. Reading back through the NICE guidelines for suspected POI, I get so upset and angry that I went through years of depression, insomnia and anxiety for no reason.

Hopefully someone who has been through Early Menopause Clinic will be able to tell you more about what happens. Good luck and well done for getting to the GP to get this investigated.

thanks.. I do have a bit of insomnia too and have had anxiety a bit on and off since covid so may also be linked.. Sorry you had such a bad experience. I guess there's been a lot more in the news/media now than 10 years ago so hopefully people are more informed..

hopeful bump for anyone else who might be able to help
