Change in body odour-possibly a testogel side effect, but practical advice needed.

I have been on a very low dose of Testogel alongside my coil and Estrogel for just over three months, I can't honestly say I've noticed any positive impact but recently I have noticed my body odour is really bad and has changed.
Even if I'm not sweating and just after showering it's horrible and I can smell it, it's like BO but a bit more acrid and also sweet I feel horrible and paranoid constantly. 🤢

I have read up and think it's because my hormone balance is off with too much testosterone and too little oestrogen so need to increase my estrogel pumps but I'm thinking of just giving up with the testogel.

Please can anyone in the immediate, recommended a really good and effective strong deodorant ?

And does anyone have any experience of this with testogel and am I giving up too soon ?

Thanks

Change in body odour was one of my strongest menopausal symptoms. It was just like you describe. I switched to Mitchum and it has been fine since.
Maybe in your case it isn't related to the testogel? But I'm no expert and only have my experience to share (none of my friends have ever mentioned change I body odour).

My BO has changed in menopause and I am not on testosterone so I wouldn't necessarily think it is that element causing it!

Pit rock is a good natural solution.

The Mitchum roll-on works for me. I had awful BO with menopause but this solved the issue.

Seas164 · 30/04/2024 22:36

My BO had changed in perimenopause, before I started on testosterone.

Thanks all , I will get the Mitchum , I've googled lots of super expensive ones but would rather not take a chance on something unknown.

I'm only making the connection with the testosterone because it's a new thing for me (the odour and the testogel) but I've been on the other HRT for 5 years without this symptom.

I'm obviously having a hormonal change one way or another, hopefully this isn't a long term issue.

I have been wondering the same about BO. I have been using T for 6 weeks and am noticing more of a smell, although only after exercise. I use Mitcham which seems to keep it under control the rest of the time.

I went through a phase of really bad BO and assumed it was due to menopause. A friend who is a dermatologist (she's a proper qualified doctor, not a self proclaimed expert) thought it was more likely to be a bacterial infection. She recommended using Dermol 500 lotion which is available online, and a good antiperspirant.

You can use the Dermol 500 in place of shower gel/soap, but I used it after washing. So, I made sure my armpits and under boobs area were really clean - showering first thing and before bed and then washing my pits anytime they started getting whiffy, then rubbing on the lotion. I also only wore natural fibres next to my skin, took off sweaty clothing and showered asap after exercise. I soaked any sweaty smelling clothes in a vinegar solution before washing. It took a few weeks but the smell is gone.

EmilyGilmoreenergy · 03/05/2024 12:31

Thanks @MagpiePi I'm going to try the charcoal soap first and if that fails I will definitely look into the lotion.
@Hellohihola will do it's coming today 🤞🏻

How did you get on OP?

If what you've got doesn't work, the natural deodorant company were amazing for me. I also used antibacterial soap

eurochick · 04/05/2024 09:19

I also got BO during peri, having always been pretty fragrant. It's a couple of days a month, always at the same point in my cycle, so definitely hormonal rather than bacterial or whatever. I break out the Mitchum then and use a gentle natural deodorant the rest of the time. Peri really is a delightful time.

@Hellohihola so far so bloody great. I have tested it carrying shopping home in the warm weather, walking the dog up hill and running and there is absolutely no funky smell.
I know hormones can spike so maybe it wouldn't have been bad anyway but I'll take it as a win and thank you very much.

*I have also stopped using testogel on advice that if you don't see any improvement after 3 months you should stop.

Music to my ears! Glad it’s also helped you 😊
