Too much oestrogen making me worse?

Hi, I'm 40 and started on HRT 2.5 months ago after suffering extreme anxiety/breakdown at Christmas. I am also taking citalopram which has helped me in the past. I'm wondering if I really need HRT, and that maybe I was clutching at straws, desperate for something to make me feel better. I was having brain fog and tiredness last summer, but I'd also just had a baby.
Anyway, my mood is all over the place. I'm actually worse on the oestrogen patches than the progesterone (i'm on evorel sequi) and I'm starting to wonder if all the hormone fluctuations are making me worse, and that maybe I should let the citalopram do its thing on its own.
My other thought is cutting my evorel 50 patch in half and seeing if a lower dose might work?
Any advice would be much appreciated, I'm losing it a bit now x

No advice on you coming off your HRT but I do know that you cannot cut the patches in half ti lower the dose, this was advised by my GP.
I was so fed up with the patches as they kept falling off and I felt as though I was taking them the wrong way (forgetting which this if patch fur which 2 weeks), I’m on gel now and it’s much better, easier to manage and no sticky square patches …. You probably should go back to your GP and explain everything fir proper medical advice, good luck! I hope you feel better soon xx

My mood was all over the place till I was prescribed testosterone which balanced my hormones well. I have much more clarity and even-temperedness has returned.

@Niceeyes do you know why you can’t cut the patches in half?

@inthewoods4 I feel a bit like this. I think the sudden change from one patch to the other is too much for me. My mood is all over the place. I was wondering about switching weekly not fortnightly which I read somewhere can help with the mood changes but I can’t find anything written anywhere.

You can cut everol in half. My gp advised me to do just that to increase to one and a half. You must make sure you're cutting the conti ones as well not just the everol 50 for the progesterone. However due to your age you may find the mini pill better, just progesterone. Progesterone drops first early in peri and even before that.

Im wondering about that too- I seem better on the conti patches with the progesterone, and I've noticed that around 4 days after stopping that patch I have a huge mood dip to the point I can't get out of bed.
