Hi everyone, I am 36 will be 37 this year. I have had crippling anxiety, reoccurring UTIs, increase in migraines and now my period has become irregular. I spoke with docs about symptoms (save for irregular period that’s just been last few months) they have been dismissive because of my age. I told them my sister is 40 and periods have stopped again they said just because it’s happened to her doesn’t mean it will happen to you. Any thoughts, feel alone and confused right now, any advice would be much appreciated. Have scheduled appointments for Monday about irregular periods (last three cycles).

Probably, and of course it’s relevant that your sister has already reached menopause. Was your mum young when hers stopped too?

It's important to get this sorted as it's much more important to treat early menopause with HRT

Family history of early menopause is a strong indicator that you will have early menopause

Go back

Definitely worth exploring. Yes you are young, but many of the symptoms you are experiencing are typical of menopause. I would be pushing for a referral to a specialist clinic, where you can speak to a specially trained doctor, explain what's happening to you and discuss family history. They will want to do blood tests to rule out anything else which might be causing your symptoms.

Good luck.

Probably. What else are they proposing it could be?

Look up premature ovarian failure. I was diagnosed last year. I'm 33 and ovaries are dead lol your symtoms do sound like somethings going on. MAKE SURE they do two blood tests of your hormones, first one and then another 6 weeks later. Do not let them fob you off as it's so bad for your bones as well as you mental health not to be treated appropriately. Sending you love xxx

They haven’t offered an explanation, for the migraines he was like could be stress, make you feel like it’s all in your head, migraines happen once or twice a month days about three days after my period now ,used to be once or twice a year!

Not sure about my mum (she has mental health problems can’t really communicate).

I'd go back and push the symptoms that are typical of peri-

'I have started having irregular periods, sore vagina(if you have) and multiple UTIs. I am worried this is peri menopause and vaginal atrophy as my family has a history of early menopause '

Leave the migraine for another appointment as it distracts into a 'treatment for migraine ' consultation instead of a peri one.

Thanks yes I have, I had a consultation with a private GP this morning and he said I need bloods FSH test, as I’m on at the moment best time is between day one and four of period so I just had a blood test (I am on day two) (His impression is early menopause) that’s what wrote as part of his notes. The GP that took the bloods at F2F said FSH test is only useful if you’re at menopause or post not heading towards it can be unreliable, it doesn’t help. I’ll get the blood test results tomorrow and then ask them what’s next, my sister literally went from regular periods one half the year irregular the second and then sorry you’ve reached menopause (delayed diagnosis) periods now stopped. Now they’re monitoring her closely due to risk of liver/heart problems etc you would think after all these years they would have a definitive test. If this was a male health problems you can be sure they would have an answer for it! 😞

Hi all, just an update the results came back and my thyroid is causing the problems. Relieved to get a diagnosis, levothyroxine dose increased.
