If your HRT patch falls off early, when do you replace it?

My current box of patches are useless at keeping their stick (tried the usual tricks of cleaning the skin, hairdryer etc)

I'm on the last patch in my box (combo oestrogen and progesterone patch)and put it on yesterday but it's fallen off already. Do I:

  • wait until Thursday (next scheduled patch replacement day) and put on as usual - i.e. a 3 day break with no patch. I think probably not as it feels like too long of a break?
  • replace today with another combo oestrogen & progesterone patch (I have a couple of spares)
  • replace today with the first patch in the next new boss, which would be an oestrogen only one.

I'd go for 2nd option, if you have a spare

LittleMy77 · 16/04/2024 13:32

I went with the spare in the end!

I’ve only had one patch fall off in 5 years. How is this happening so much?
Don’t use body lotion and don’t apply after a shower when skin is too warm, put it on before maybe?

LittleMy77 · 16/04/2024 14:35

I do all of that already. It’s from one specific box of patches which make me think the adhesive isn’t working properly in that batch

Can you put a showerproof adhesive dressing over the top?

This is currently happening to me with the brand I've been supplied. I've started using tattoo wrap over the patch to keep it in place.

Another tip (you may be doing this) use bar soap and a glove exfoliating mit. No lotions , shower gels they leave a film on the skin. Mine don’t budge

I’m on Everol Sequi and they initially kept coming off. The instructions are explicit that your option two is the right approach - they even recommend having a spare box for this reason.

I learned that they stay on better if I stick them in a different place. I was sticking on bum and thighs but have found on the lower tummy / under knickers stay on way more reliably. I think there is less movement or being knocked when they are there.

I always have a box of spares on the go (write “spares”
on it so you don’t get them mixed up) as I probably get through 7 months worth every 6 months. They peel off all the time on me! I’ve also followed all the advice and tried the tattoo covers but they also came off. I do quite a lot of exercise so get sweaty daily but I do find that some boxes are much worse than others so I think there are slightly dodgy batches of them! I’ve considered changing to the gels but the packing makes it seem less convenient and I’d need to remember to take tablets as well.
