Bleeding after insertion of Mirena coil

I know it is very common to have spotting for months after the insertion of a Mirena coil. Mine finally stopped after about four months, but since then, on the odd occasion that I have been constipated I have had vaginal bleeding. Usually just a smear, but this morning there was quite a lot of blood, which has finally stopped (although I do have what feels like period pain, on and off).

An added complication is that neither the gynae nor the GP could find the strings post insertion, but both concluded that it must still be there due to spotting. I’m supposed to have an ultrasound to locate it, but am in a cycle of bureaucracy between the GP (who tells me I can book it myself at the hospital) and the hospital (who says it needs a formal referral from the GP).

I’m now a bit concerned that it could have migrated somewhere - if anyone has had these symptoms, what was the outcome?

When mine moved out of place, the pain was horrible, I bloated massively, couldn't do up my trousers and felt like I was going to faint.
