I’m on 2 pumps oestrogel and 200mg Utrogestan which I take 2 weeks on/2 weeks off. Having never been an anxious person I’m now suffering crippling anxiety from the end of my period which is usually during the middle of the first week without progesterone, until I restart it 10 days later. I’ve been on hrt for 4 months and there’s been no improvement. Can anyone else relate or have suggestions on how to cope? I’m struggling with my job, my children and my best friend is catching the brunt of the uncontrollable crying…..

You poor thing been there and it is horrible and so confusing when you start to feel so out of sorts. I used to feel like I was going slightly mad or madder than I usually felt. If you try the Utrogestan vaginally it does help as when I was taking it orally 2 weeks on/off felt suicidal as many women are so sensitive to their own progesterone hence pmt/pmdd. Taking it vaginally at night it reduces nearly all side effects, as felt so low and crying and going around like a bloody zombie. Try this for a few months and if it does not improve please see your doctor. In peri I also cried a lot over nothing, it is just your hormones all over the place so don't be so hard on yourself. Thank god I did not get any rage. Maybe you can increase to 3 pumps of Oestrogel to balance it out and see how you get on with that. Wishing you well as it is a horrible time in our lives and sometimes takes a few tweaks to get hrt right and may have to change again according to symptoms.

Anxiety is the worst. GP prescribed me SSRIs before HRT - I had no idea anxiety was a symptom of menopause. I’m now on 4 pumps of Estrogel, no SSRIs, and 200mg Utrogestan daily (continuous HRT). I’d consider increasing your oestrogen.
My anxiety is manageable now.

I had extreme anxiety and insomnia with two pumps of oestrogel and had to reduce to 1 pump which seems to work for me. It’s a nightmare trying to figure out what works for each of us!
