Brown discharge

Im 48 years old and still having periods but they seem to be getting closer together. I’m going though an incredibly stressful time as my husband has throat cancer at the moment so I’m caring for him during treatment and also dealing with demanding teens. I had a period 2 weeks ago but today when I wiped I noticed a very slight brown discharge. Nothing since. Could this be normal at my age. Worth a trip to GP or only if it happens again? Due a smear at the end of the year.

Mine got closer together, and heavier, plus I started spotting like you. Eventually I ended up anaemic, so had a Mirena to stop me getting anaemic again. I wish I’d had it years earlier.

I think it’s normal and just longer periods but prob worth asking the gp. I get that most months and sorry to say still have periods early 50s. Are you tracking on your phone to keep a record so you can discuss with your gp. Mirena does seem to be a good solution tho some people don’t get on with it - so hard to know what to do for the best

It is normal during peri. At one point in late peri, I had a 17 day cycle (so just over 2 weeks between periods.)

The 'usual' advice is to keep a diary of your cycles for 6 months and see how they go.

Sorry to hear about your husband and yes, stress can send cycles all over the place.
