Why do I struggle so much with Oestrogen?

I’m 50 with regular periods.

I have a lot of peri symptoms, mainly digestive issues, poor sleep, dizziness, anxiety, weight gain.

GP happy to offer HRT. I started with gel, just 1 pump.

First couple of days I felt good, more energy but then a week in I started to feel unwell. Thick head, sinus issues, headache, neck and jaw aches. Tension and anxiety.

I persevered a month and then gave up as I was feeling so horrible. Progesterone phase was ok but I definitely felt worse taking the Oestrogen.

Full month off, back to GP to try patches. Same again, first few days fine, a week in the bloating, severe backache, generally feeling unwell. After a week gave up.

why does oestrogen do this to me? I’m wondering how health my liver is as I have read that it could be that my liver can’t break it down properly. I have been having issues with yellow / tan stools for the past few years and am now thinking my liver may be not working as it should?

I have had bloods done in the last 2-3 years and they were all fine.

Im disappointed as I was hoping HRT would sort me out. I feel good the first few days but then about a week in it’s as tho it’s built up in my system and the side effects start.

Any advice please

I don't know.
Is it a coincidence?

the starting dose for gel is 2 pumps.
The medical advice is to use HRT for 3 months then assess the dose.

How do you know the symptoms weren't something else? They don't sound like a reaction to estrogen as all it does it replace what you had before.

Transdermal estrogen bypasses the liver.

Tan stools? is that not normal? Stools that are abnormal or tarry black or pale white (if it's a liver issue.)

I have the same issues as you do op.
Tight clenching jaw, palpitations, weight gain...HUGE boobs

The plus sides for me are a more even mood, lighter periods, less aches and pains, but this has worn off.

Considering stopping. Again. Have tried twice now. And various different types.

Those are definitely the oestrogen reactions for me. They came back as soon as I started again after a three month clear out.

Don't even get me started on the progesterone!!

I don’t know but I have a constant struggle trying to get my level up without awful side effects. I was on oestrogen and utrogestan. Oestrogen level was very low on one pump but on two I get bleeding and stomach pain. At 63 I’m not up for regular ransom bleeding.

i was changed to evorel conti patches nearly 3 months ago and now have constant tender, swollen and painful boobs. No bleeding or stomach pain though. It’s so hard to know what to do when you just can’t seem to find something suitable,
