Evorel vs estrodot transdermal patches. Is there a difference?

I am 47 and have Mirena last 4 years. In the last year I started getting some peri symptoms such as mild anxiety and exhaustion. Went to gp and it was agreed I'd start transdermal patches. I started on 50mg of estrodot and they worked great energy and mood back to normal. Last time I went for prescription pharmacy switched it to evorel because of supply issues with estrodot. Past couple of weeks I've been having sleep issues and noticed anxiety creeping back in. Could the change in brand be a coincidence or could it be causing the return of these symptoms?

I have always been on Evorel and find them great and not had any problems. Are they staying on ok? I have heard some women say that different brands work best for them x

LuckyCharmz · 12/03/2024 18:53

Yes I’ve heard lots of women say that Estradot work best for them.

Yeah they stay on fine. Hard to know then what's caused the issues maybe I need a higher dose

I started on Everol with no issues but swapped to Estradot at my last review with GP. Much prefer the smaller patches and I had been wanting to increase dose when on Everol but not felt the need once on Estradot.

I also had the pharmacy swap due to supply and I felt terrible back on the Everol. I don’t feel like the patches deliver as well (mine crinkle up a lot) and I now get sore skin from them too.

From recollection one is derived from yams and the other soy, so that could also make a difference for some.

You might need a higher dose. I started on 50s and after a few months felt symptoms coming back (palpitations, flushes, anxiety) so changed to 75s and not long after to 100s. No issues since. Are the evorel patches the big ones? They made me itch so were ok as an emergency solution but far prefer estradot.

Started on estradot, great for 3 months then had to switch to Evorel and they work but it’s like ‘HRT lite’ in comparison. Still no availability near me so still on them. And they are starting to make my skin slightly sore.

Thanks for that. Yeah I did wonder whether it is time to increase dose. Went back to pharmacy yesterday and discussed it, still no 50s in so they have given me a 100 and advised I can cut it in half along the diagonal so will see how it goes. If symptoms persist I will go back to gp for prescription for higher dose. Apparently the supply issue is mainly with the 50s, 75 and 100s seem to be fine

I was on Estradot 75 and was feeling fine on them. However due to the HRT shortage, I've had to swap to Everol 75 but my anxiety, low mood, brain fog, hot flushes, sleeping issues, have returned. I'm hoping this is a temporary measure and that once my body gets used to the Everol 75 I will get to feel like my old self again 🤞🤞

Scottishexplorer · 10/06/2025 14:32

I’ve also had to swap and it’s recent so I’m not sure of the impact yet, but I much prefer the Estradot for each of peel off and put back ok eg if I want to use the sauna in my gym

Justbetweenus · 11/06/2025 19:11

I’ve swapped temporarily to gel (estradot is now out of stock until at least October 😏). Early days, but in comparison to patches, so faffy.

There's an interesting post about Estrodot on perimenopause and menopause on Instagram, about the 4th from the top of their page. Discussing why you can get it on private prescription but not on the nhs, will it ever come. back?

Update on Everol 75 - changed from Estradot 75 due to shortages.
I don't think my body is absorbing the Everol 75 very well, so have now increased to Everol 100 and will try this for a month. Finger crossed I feel a little bit more like myself soon... so fed up with Estradot shortages, as the Everol 100 are so large and don't stick to my skin very well... which maybe why the absorption rate isn't as great as the Estradot, as Estradot patches are small, discreet and stick incredibly well.

tammienorrie · 26/06/2025 15:19

The estrogen component of evorel worked fine for me and I never had any issue getting them to stick. But I am allergic to the adhesive.

tammienorrie · 26/06/2025 15:20

@Mez97 - if you are going to Spain this summer or know anyone who is, you can get estradot over the counter. I am bringing 6 boxes back with me.

stringbean · 27/06/2025 06:34

Nope, they didn’t work for me. I had to switch from Estradot to Evorel during the last shortage and felt terrible; anxious, tearful and my mood crashed, poor sleep. In the end I went to a private menopause specialist who took bloods and informed me my oestradiol levels were almost zero, so I wasn’t absorbing the patches at all.

Fortunately, the shortage didn’t last long but seems to be a theme with Estradot, so for this latest shortage, I wasn’t prepared to take the risk again that I’d be dispensed Evorel, so specifically requested Oestrogel. I actually feel better on it than on Estradot and find I need a lower dose - 2 pumps (equivalent to 50mcg patch, whereas I was using a 75mcg patch previously).
