Heavy periods.... help

Hi im in my mid 40s . My periods only used to last 3 days . Now they are heavy for 2-3 weeks. Any suggestions of what I could do. I don't want to take tablets as they are likely to make me put on weight. I'm already over weight and I don't want that worse. Is there any alternative?

What kind of tablets do you think will make you put on weight?

I would suggest asking your GP about tranexamic acid. You take it on the days your period is heaviest and it cuts down the flow. Honestly I very much doubt weight gain is a side effect as it just helps your blood to clot. I found it an absolute godsend.

Wait a second - you have your period for 2-3 weeks??? See the GP for sure.

I did have this and GP referred my to gynae who removed a few polyps and popped in a mirena. That sorted it and also contributed to half my HRT.

I had suffered the same as you for about 6 months until I barely had a week between periods. It made me quite exhausted and anaemic. I'm back up to speed now.

See your GP

I had an ablation on my womb, best thing I've ever done and should have had it ten years ago .
My periods were utterly awful flooding constantly and now barely there.
I've finished having children years ago so that wasn't an issue and you still need contraception as it's dangerous to fall pregnant
I have the novasure ablation

See your GP for sure. You might find a Mirena coil stops your periods completely, it did for me at that age.
