Had mirena fitted in dec & they said to feel for the strings 6wks later.. I have & can't feel anything different up there..?! What do these strings feel like, are they obvious? Also bled for first 2 months, stopped for couple weeks & am now bleeding again, mainly dark blood for the last week.. does this sound normal? Is it just a period? Am on oestrogen gel hrt too - I thought my periods might stop altogether..
can't face trying to get through to docs so thought I'd see what experiences others have had first! TIA

Sometimes you can't feel the strings. Worth seeing if a nurse can check for you

I could feel my string, only just, but eventually they disappeared. Several years later when I wanted it out, I had to have a specialist pry me open and find it after the GP couldn't. The obgyn was an old guy who cut them short for my husband. 😒

Do note your cervix is at different positions over the month so if it's far back, the strings might be harder to reach- so don't worry yet! 🤞

The nurse at my GP practice checked my strings at 6 weeks. She said that she has never been able to feel for her strings and that in her experience most strings end up curled up in the cervix.

The strings feel like fishing wire. The doctor who put mine in let me feel them before insertion.
