I’ve been in early menopause for about 18 months now (I’m 40) and on HRT for a year. My GP is excellent and has always been happy to prescribe and check my bloods etc.

I really struggled to absorb transdermal oestrogen (I’ve a coil for my progesterone) so I’ve gone from 150mg patches to 2mg tablets in the last few months. I’ve tried gel and the spray to no avail.

The tablets have been brilliant and I’ve been really steady on them for three months. However I’ve had an awful 7-10 days and I’m wondering whether it’s due to my background fluctuating hormones or whether I need a higher dose.

It seems to happen every 2/3 months where by my palpitations come back with with a vengeance, my sleep goes to sh*t, and my mood is all over the place. It’s awful.

I’ve given up alcohol long ago, massively reduced my caffeine, take a tonne of multi vitamins, daily walk, yoga, weight training etc. I’ve nothing more to give to it frankly.

Is this normal? I’m worried if I go up a dose then there’s nowhere to go after that and I’ll just have to live with this hell. And I can’t. Or will it pass in a week?

Please help.

I'm the same.. on hrt yet still get dodgy periods, as you say they do pass but makes me wonder if the hrt is worthwhile and/or if need higher dose. Can't be bothered to talk to my doc about it as they just answer / prescribe by the book. I wonder if only truly bespoke solution is private but can't afford that so just suck it up! It's such a confusing time of life. Sympathies to you - you're not alone!
