Hi all
I’m currently on Evorel conti and another estrogen only patch . I was prescribed the second patch for an increase in joint pain and it settled that down . I have been on HRT for about 5 years and the double patches for about 18 months .
I have been having some bleeding and am not sure if that’s normal . I was investigated about a year ago after a patch of bleeding and ultrasound said all fine .
Any insights and advice ?

The issue is likely to be too high a dose of estrogen for the amount of progestogen in the patch.

The dose in one patch is a balance between the two hormones.
If you are adding more estrogen you should, in theory, increase the progestogen too.

Your GP should know this or at least be aware of how it can happen.

If you need a lot of estrogen, your GP should take advice from a specialist (if they haven't already) or refer you to see what can be done.

Christine0708 · 16/02/2024 20:18

Sounds like you may need more progesterone. I don’t thinks it’s best practice to add extra oestrogen to conti as it only has enough progesterone in it to cover the oestrogen in the patch not extra. I may be wrong. You may be best with oestrogen only patch and separate progesterone so you can titrate both separately. I have Evorel 50 and take utrogestan as progesterone but there are other progesterone available too. You are best going GP and getting checked over.

Separate progestogen? :)

Oops thanks @JinglingSpringbells
have corrected yes that’s exactly what I meant x

JinglingSpringbells · 16/02/2024 20:30

I agree with what you said anyway @Christine0708 !

There shouldn't be any 'adding estrogen to a combined patch'.
The Norethisterone in the patch is the right amount for the estrogen.

This is quite basic and the GP ought to know.

Christine0708 · 16/02/2024 21:20

I agree @JinglingSpringbells but I’ve seen a few posts recently where that’s been happening x

Celynfour · 16/02/2024 21:21

Thank you all for your replies . I’m going to double-check my second patch to see if it’s a combined patch . I had wondered if I am now getting more oestrogen because I’ve had some breast tenderness and I haven’t had that for a long time .
maybe I need to review what and why I’m on it . I don’t want to discontinue, HRT has given me back functionality .

@Celynfour you won’t need to stop HRT just need the correct amount of progesterone for oestrogen.

Christine0708 · 17/02/2024 15:02

@Racheyroo1974 you have answered your own question not taking HRT correctly will cause spotting and your oestrogen will fluctuate x

Racheyroo1974 · 17/02/2024 15:05

Aww Christine .Im such an idiot.. Ive loved not bleeding the last 4 years I started HRT last year but not been on it a while then went back on it last week. My breasts hurt now they feel better and im spotting

Christine0708 · 17/02/2024 16:13

@Racheyroo1974 you can have a little bit of spotting when you first take continuous HRT too and some side effects all should settle down x

Racheyroo1974 · 17/02/2024 16:58

Thank you , You have put my mind at rest .Seeing Nurse Monday.. Dont think its healthy taking my pill continesly for 4 years without a break either. Its been suggested having a coil which I dont fancy

Hi ladies
I posted on here back in Feb. When i was having slight brown discharge im on deodestral pill and on HRT. I was check and had smear which were all ok. Ive started to have tonight the same thing again and period type cramps. Im worried it cld be something bad altho internet does say taking pill back to back might cause breakthro bleeding.Any thoughts?

Racheyroo1974 · 05/05/2025 12:38

Hi everyone
I came on here last Feb 2024 . Ive had today a small amount of thin brown discharge .My HRT pump gel was upped back in March of this year. Ive had it previously but that was because i wasnt taking HRT properly. Is it still normal to have a small discharge if Estrogen levels are fluctuating on HRT.?? Im worried

quirkychick · 05/05/2025 12:44

I was on Evorel Sequi, alternating combined patch with oestrogen patch and, like you, had a bleed and went for an ultrasound. I was put on Evorel Conti - combined oestrogen and progesterone. Ihad another bleed recently as stupidly used some old Evorel Sequi (oestrogen) patches by mistake. The GP said it was because I didn't have enough progesterone, so bled. I'm also on the mini pill, but due a blood test to see if I can come off. So, not enough oestrogen to progesterone can cause a bleed.

Racheyroo1974 · 05/05/2025 12:53

Its not so much bleeding but a slight discharge. My pump was updated less than 3mnrhs ago so and previouslt ot had anything for over 13mnths. I do winder how good this HRT is an how it messes with yr system. Im.also on Deodestral pill

Might be good to start a new thread about yourself as this is getting lost in the OP's thread which was ages ago.

Briefly, any odd bleeding should be reported but it's not clear what you're using , how much, how long, your age, peri or post meno, and the progesterone you mention isn't one used in England- what's it for? Is it the mini pill?
Is it for use with your estrogen?

Racheyroo1974 · 05/05/2025 13:10

Im using Oestrogel 750mg gel and Utrogestan 100mg capsule. Im on Desogestral mini pill too. Im 50. Been on HRT for a year but nurse upped my gel pump in March. Not sure if im peri or post menopausal as not had a bleed for years because took my pill back to back

The gel isn't 750mgs.
There is 0.75mgs in one pump.
How many pumps do you use a day?
