Increased to 100mg patch but now 200mg nightly of Ultrogestan (given Gepretix)

Hi, I was on 75mg everol patch plus 100mg capsule of Ultrogestan continuously.
This was fine but after 6 months started having lots of physical symptoms (breast pain, aching, tingly hands and feet, night sweats etc) and was still having regular light bleeds (every 28 days) . Have been to the DR today who says as I need to increase the patch to 100mg and also the progesterone to 200mg every night no break. Has anyone else had this as I can only find once article from Harley St that says sometimes the increase in progesterone if the estrogen is 100mg. Also the chemist was out of Ultrogestan so have been given Gepretix which is the same pharmacologically, hope it's ok.

It might take you a few minutes to search for this, but I've posted links to the guidance from the British Menopause Society on use of progestogens with HRT.

I think there was also an article in the media (newspapers) some months ago because of some women being given huge doses of estrogen (privately) and ending up with problems.

They have definitely suggested that women on a high dose (75/100mcg patches) may need more Utrogestan.

It's not mandatory but there is concern that as Utrogestan is less powerful than synthetic progestogens, women on a high dose of estrogen are at a slightly higher risk of hyperplasia.

Thank you, I'll try and look later. That makes me feel a bit better but what I saw quickly yesterday was 100mg etc. My Dr said I am now menopausal (49 been on hrt for 6 years) but I always thought that I would be on less hrt once I was menopausal as things would have settled down.

I'm on a 50 patch and was on 100 ultrogestan but got a womb build up and bleeding. So (after a scan/biopsy) now on 200 of ultrogestan.

I do get sore boobs sometimes and frustratingly, still some bleeding. So now looking at a mirena coil. The NICE guidelines say that a coil for local application of the hormone is better and more effective. So now I'm waiting to get a coil fitted.

I'm quite. Bit older than you though and stopped periods 10+ years ago.

Have you had a blood test recently? I was on a 75mg patch and wanted to try 100mg. GP wanted me to have AD, private GP said 75mg is a high dose but sent me for a blood test before discussing doses - turns out topical estrogen doesn't work for me so my levels were low. Now trying oral estrogen to see if that raises my levels. I have a mirena so I've got progesterone covered (I hope!).

I will try it and see how I go, it's so frustrating. I have been regular even on hrt which is strange, it's just all the other bits.

Hi, no I haven't had one at all for my hormones. I went up to the 75 last April as I was so anxious etc and felt great until just before Christmas when all the physical symptoms came back. I'll have to see how I go just worried about the 200mg but have now read a few things that make sense about higher estrogen higher progesterone etc. I'm not really interested in the coil but it may be the only answer if this doesn't work. Wish I could have the thing taken out so I just had estrogen to worry about

@Ladybird3355 i went up to 100mcg patch and switched to the coil and it's been a miracle. No more awful depression, no remembering to take the Utrogestan, and practically no bleeding now.

Thank you. Will seriously consider it although I have heard so many horror stories. Might be the only option left in a bit 😆
