Bleeding on evorel conti

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 11/02/2024 21:14

I was using evorel conti and utrogestan until there was a shortage in covid. I moved onto the gel which was great until the packaging changed and my symptoms returned. Mood changes, joint pain but mostly painful vaginal dryness
GP put me back onto the evorel conti patches. After years of no bleeding I now have light bleeding which is concerning me. Also havd a wierd kind of vibrating feeling almost like a muscle spasm but gentle and lasting for a few seconds
Should I be worried, mainly re the bleeding?

Evorel CONTI is combined estrogen+norethisterone, daily.
No need for Utrogestan.
It's a no bleed type for women post menopause.
Why did you have Utrogestan with a conti HRT?

All combined continuous HRT can cause spotting for 6 months, but this is usually only at the start or a swap from a sequential type.

To offer help, we need to be clear what you were on, swapped to and are now back on.

Ok
GP told me there are 2 kinds of evorel conti, combined and 1 that still needs the utrogestan
I think I was originally on the combined patch
Moved onto utrogestan 100 plus oestrogel which worked amazingly well until the packaging changed. Moved back onto patch which is evorel conti estradiol hemihydrate/norethisterone acetate

There are two kinds of Evorel. (But not 2 kinds of conti.)

See here.

Evorel sequi for perimenopause https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/perimeno.php

Evorel Conti for postmenopause.
https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/postmeno.php

If you were using gel and Utrogestan and the Utrogestan was 100mgs every day, that's the same as conti.

If it was 12 days per month, that's the same as sequi.

It's normal to have bleeding when starting on continuous types.
(See the information below from the same page linked above.)

POST MENOPAUSAL -
Continuous combined therapies.
"Period free" or continuous combined therapy can be used by women who are 54 + yrs, or more than one year since last period at any age. The criteria should be fulfilled in order to offer such treatment to women who no longer have a continuing ovarian cycle, so that steady levels of both estrogen and progestogen can be achieved. When there are steady levels of estrogen and progestogen from daily administration of both, the womb lining stays thin. Although some bleeding in the first 6 months of therapy is common, there should not be bleeding after that and the lining does not go through the stages of stimulation and then shedding as it does during a normal cycle and with sequential therapy.

Patches don't need Utrogestan unless they are an estrogen-only patch.
Evorel isn't one of those.

Thanks both
I will stop the utrogestan and contact GP

@WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere I’m on everol 50which is oestrogen only and take utrogestan for 12 days a month as peri. Are you definitely sure they’re conti patches and not oestrogen only patches x

I am 56 and started Evorel Conti 14 months ago. 2 months ago, after using the patches for just over a year I started with brown tinged discharge, then brown bleeding after sex.
Has anyone else had this?
For info - I don't know when my last period was as I had the implant until Jan 2018 and didn't have periods while I had it, for 7 years.
I've had an ultra scan and a trans vaginal - I'm now waiting to go for a gynae appt at the hospital. I'm so very worried. Any advice pls?

I have been using the Evorel Conti for 6 months, had the implant for the standard time before that, it had expired a month before I started the HRT. Had the implant removed after starting HRT, last month started bleeding and it has also left me with a brown odourless discharge that won't go away. I have been referred to the hospital. It's all very confusing isn't it!!!!
