Hysteroscopy and coil fitting, how long should the pain last?

I am post menopausal taking HRT and have had trouble with bleeding for a while.

I had a hysteroscopy just over a year ago and my lining was thick (6.5mm) but nothing sinister found.

Im still having bleeding problems so had another scan and lining now 9mm. I had a hysteroscopy a week ago and they fitted the mirena coil at the same time.

This hysteroscopy really hurt. I didn’t expect that as the last one was fine. I’m only having very light spotting but I’m getting stomach cramps that I sometimes need to take painkillers for. I’m particularly getting pain in my lower right side.

Just want to know if this is normal? What have others experienced? I have a GP appointment on Friday to discuss it.

I had one last week and I've been lucky to have no pain but the hospital recommended Buscopan for the cramps. Would that be a possibility?

@Postslikethese thanks for your reply I could give that a try.

Hi @KrustyTheKat just wondering if your pain settled down, and if so how long did it take? I had Hysteroscopy and polyp removal 1 week ago when they also fitted a Mirena. I’m having excruciating cramps still, and doesn’t seem to be lessening. I’ve no idea what is normal for the settling in period!

@Whatapickle78 Hi, yes it settled down, I only get the odd mild cramp here and there now.

It’s been about 3.5 weeks since I had it done and I’d say the past week is when things got better. Hang in there I’m sure it will get better.
