So I have started taking this to aid sleep. I have been taking the recommended dosage of two tablets after food. So sleep has improved but I wake up with a jaw ache on the left side. Does anyone know what this could be and should I stop taking it?

Yes it does make sense Aworld. It’s funny my DH took some last night and he had a great sleep too. I asked if he had jaw ache and he said no. Yes I will persevere with it.

Excellent!

Hey Crunchy still going well which is good. What I have noticed is how much better my nails are in appearance and strength. Do you think the two are linked?

I use the spray on my feet. It's amazing.

pilates · 19/03/2024 05:48

Oh, can you link to that please goingdown? That’s interesting not heard of a foot spray.

It's this one but they do a sleep one too.

It does dry out the skin on the sole of your feet. Bit like a foot peel.

pilates · 19/03/2024 13:52

So does it aid sleep and pain relief too?

I've had the same problem with the jaw! I'd previously taken a different form of magnesium, which gave me awful stomach problems, which was annoying because it made me sleep like a baby. Recently I heard about magnesium glycinate, so I tried that. I thought the jaw ache was a coincidence at first, but nope. I stopped taking it and... no more jaw pain. I also think it was affecting my mood - I'd been feeling really down since taking it (unusual for me) and now I'm fine!

pilates · 19/03/2024 14:52

Oh really AllProper. Are you taking anything else?

@pilates I'm not sure about pain but helped my sleep.

pilates · 19/03/2024 16:23

Bit put off with the peeling skin on your feet

I've recently tried the spray linked upthread. It has helped enormously with sleep, but I don't like the 'tingle' effect on the skin - though it doesn't stop me dropping off so I put it on immediately before sleeping. I only do one spray on each calf, and only use every other night.

Best thing was I picked it up in Home Bargains for £4.99 - half the price (or more) than anywhere else.

The day after I stopped the Magnesium Glycinate, I started taking a Wellwoman 50+ supplement. It still has magnesium in it, I think, but no more than a normal multivitamin/minerals would have, and I figure it has other things that might do me good! I was convinced the awful low mood was fluctuating hormone levels, until it vanished (along with the jaw pain) after I stopped taking it. I also religiously take a probiotic. I think that helps with mental state too - all about the gut-brain thing, I guess.

I googled Mag Glycinate side effects and did spot a few posts on Reddit etc where people said that for them it had caused some of the things it was meant to be good at getting rid of!

Ayeupduck82 · 22/03/2025 19:59

I know this is an old post but I took magnesium.pill the other night and woke up with shocking jaw pain! It's been two days now and hope the effects wear off soon!

pilates · 04/06/2025 18:24

I have persevered with the magnesium glycinate and the jaw ache has stopped.

Just wondered if it’s safe to take every day for long periods? Does anyone know?

OP posts:
Om83 · 04/06/2025 20:54

Glad it’s stopped- I wonder if it was that you were deficient and just your body using up/moving it around as your intake increased?!

yes safe to take long term (depending on dosage- I think they recommend less than 350/400mg a day though, but I think that’s more about magnesium causing laxative side effects at high doses!)

Your body needs it so yes it is.
I take 450mcg elemental glycinate every night and then malate in the morning.

If i don't take it I don't sleep.

I've been taking it for 3yrs.

pilates · 05/06/2025 10:28

Thank you both that is good to hear 🙏
