"Balancing" hormones

I'm falling down Internet rabbit hole searching for answers because I've been feeling so rubbish. Sleeping badly (and I've cut out caffeine and alcohol since 3rd Jan) anxiety without an obvious cause is through the roof, weight gain is "fecking easy on, glacial off".

I've been on HRT for an a couple of years. I'm 50. 100 patch and 100 utrogestan (taken every day as no periods through contraception).

I've ended up reading about "balancing hormones". But it seems EVERYTHING/ANYTHING out of whack causes weight gain, anxiety, etc etc. High oestrogen/low progesterone = weight gain, anxiety etc. Low oestrogen/high progesterone = weight gain, anxiety etc.

Wtf! Surely we're on a hiding to nothing!!

I guess I was starting to wonder if my utrogestan was too low. But when everything seems to have the same side effects, how do I know?! (Blood tests are too variable in peri aren't they?!)

I believe you can have a blood test to check if you are absorbing oestrogen. It could be you need to change regime as gp won’t give you above 100mg patch. It’s a minefield though. Hope you find an answer.
