Anyone have any sudden bleeding after years of no monthly’s because of Mirena?

I posted on AIBU, I didn’t realise there was a menopause section! I had the mirena coil fitted many years ago and it was (is) great for me. My monthly bleeding stopped completely. I started having some spotting out of the blue about three weeks ago and it’s a bit heavier like a light period now. I don’t have any other symptoms and I’m not on any medication. I’m guessing this is my body telling me I’m entering menopause? (I’m 50). Not really sure whether to go to GP, I’ve read on the NHS website it is normal for menopause, but it also says irregular bleeding should be checked out by a GP so I’m a bit confused. Just wondering if others have experienced this.

it maybe that your coil needs replacing and the progesterone has reduced or ran out .

Ok thanks, it’s been in for less than 3 years so it shouldn’t need replacing yet, but maybe it’s down to progesterone.

Yes. I am 46, have had mirena for 9 or ten years with no periods (excluding light ones when the last one had been in 6 years) and suddenly started having spotting in February which has increased now to period like bleeding every few weeks. This coil has been in for only just over 2 years, so not expired yet!

I went to GP, who was disinterested, but I pushed as unexpected bleeding should always be investigated. Ultrasound shows a tiny fibroid but nothing else. Waiting for a gynecology appointment now.

Suspect it's peri meno, as I'm also experiencing some brain fog and mood issues, but don't want to throw any estrogen into the mix until the bleeding is explained.

It's worth discussing with GP and they may suggest changing mirena, as mine did.

Did you recently have covid jab? It kickstarted periods again for a couple of months for me (I've been on mirena for 2 years).

I had similar and a coil change sorted it out.
