Are these peri symptoms?

Muscle pain. Stiffness. Twitching. Little electric shock sensations.

Im suffering from terrible anxiety because I think I’m terminally ill with something like ALS, MS or Parkinson’s, despite being told by multiple doctors that they can’t find anything wrong with me and they don’t think I have those diseases.

Everyone has different symptoms, so yes, they could be.
I remember being convinced I had MS due to tingling in my arms. It was low ferritin.
If they can’t find anything, and you’re over 45, it would be worth trying it and doing a symptom diary.

I thought I had some long tail Covid because I got all sorts of weird aches. I had no idea peri was so muscle/jointy - so much about it I had/have no idea about.

Any change in cycles/night sweats OP?

No dr (even gynae) has suggested that a blood test for peri would be useful - i presume because hormones are such a mess at this point, it's meaningless diagnostically.

Exercise, breathing exercises, meditation if you can stand it!

Has someone assessed you for anxiety, OP?

Yes I am very anxious. But it’s the symptoms that are making me anxious. If they would just go away I wouldn’t be anxious.

Any change in cycles/night sweats OP?
Maybe a bit heavier but otherwise no. I’m 44 btw.

Are you sure? It couldn't be that your brain has got into a grove of obsessing about neuro-type symptoms but actually peri is behind the general upswing in anxiety? And you are misperceiving the causality? I would bet it was that way around.

Try a good quality omega 3 for your muscle pain and stiffness.
Id try some magnesium, vit B complex, and D3 with K2 too.

Anyway, it's not what you are worrying about, so perhaps you should look at addressing the health anxiety? It can't do any harm? You can usually self refer to talking therapies on the NHS.

I had some very stressful events in my life last summer, and I got very anxious. Things like an operation I was dreading, worries about a new job, concerns about my mum’s health. But I wouldn’t normally be super anxious, so maybe peri has increased my anxiety.

It just seems like my symptoms are far too severe to be caused by anxiety? At one point I could barely walk with the pain. And the issues are resolved now, the operation was four months ago, so why do I still have this pain and twitching etc? Now I’m more scared of what the pain and twitching is, the other stuff isn’t even on my radar.

Muscle pain and stiffness are exactly what I had/have. I think electric shock sensations and twitching could be anxiety itself, could be peri, could be to do with muscle condition itself, could be vitamin deficiency. But it doesn't sound weird to me at all.

You sound like you've had masses of anxiety-inducing things all at once. I really do think the body keeps the score. Could you do anything nice for yourself? Massage? Acupuncture? A 2 week properly relaxing holiday? I've got a twitchy as fuck eye and it is so much better for this Xmas break. I'm just knackered.

I am 44 and I'm guessing approaching peri if not already in.

My symptoms are restless legs & hip pain.

I have started taking a multi vitamin, vit D and B12 and it's made a lot of difference. In fact symptoms have gone (for now). I don't know if it's just cycling but so far, so good.

I did try taking iron but that makes you constipated.

My DH’s (then unknown) anxiety was so bad that he was off work. He struggled to eat and lost a lot of weight, I thought he had cancer. He had bloods, scans, and even an investigative operation to find the cause of his discomfort but it all came back negative. Antidepressants were the answer, but it took us a long time of him not believing to get there.

DustyLee123 · 05/01/2024 06:51

@FedUpMumof10YO if the aches/pains kick back in try a good quality omega 3.

Yes it does sound like peri. There is a great free app called Perry, a great community of women who are all going through it.
