Hot flushes. Is this normal?!

Been having the odd hot flush/major sweat for a few years now. Periods have always been irregular due to PCOS but had become more frequent which I took as a sign I was perimenopausal. Suddenly,I would say over the last month,I have been having hot flushes so frequently. Probably about 15 a day. When I get in bed I have one the second I put the duvet over me. When I wake up I go into one straight away. It’s driving me insane. Straight after I also become very cold. I’ve taken my temperature several times when it’s happened as I thought I might have flu or something but it’s always low. It is freaking me out as I’m worried that it might not be a menopause thing and that something is seriously wrong. I just feel like I have a knackered thermostat! One minute I’m on fire and the next I’m freezing. Haven’t had a period now for about 6 weeks.
any advice would be greatly appreciated

Yep.

Drove me up the wall.

It was what sent me to the doctor to get HRT.

Me too! I spent every night drenched in sweat having to get out of bed and change my pyjamas. I was recommended a herbal supplement called black cohosh which stopped almost all of my symptoms including hot flushes and night sweats. It took 2-3 weeks for me to notice the difference. Are you on HRT?

No I’m not on hrt. It’s so awful. It seems to get worse by the day. The feeling of heat is just terrible. I don’t always sweat but I get a clammy face. Then as soon as I cool down I’m ice cold. Can’t deal with it at all.

Yes it's normal for me I'm afraid and has been for 5 or 6 years. I last menstruated 4 or 5 years ago and was always regular and 'normal'. I am not on HRT but do take supplements.

It happens 20 times a day or more and the heat is so intense and leaves me drenched in cold clamminess when it recedes. I think "I can't get any hotter" but then I do! I also get hot the minute I put on an extra layer or get under the duvet. I don't get as cold afterwards as you though.

Go and see your GP if you haven't already, although sorry to say it might be pointless. I was shocked to discover the medical establishment doesn't even know what actually causes hot flushes.

OP the flushes stop within a few days of taking Oestrogen. Mine have just come back and I'm waiting to see if I can have a further oestrogen increase.

I hate it. It has a massive impact on my relationship as DH is constantly putting the bedroom rad on and I'm turning it off.

And I got sick of waking up with a soaking wet chest. That's the only place I sweat, but I feel the flushes rolling up my body when I get back into bed.
