Mirena - no libido?

12 replies

DustyLee123 · 30/12/2023 11:48

I’ve absolutely lost my libido, if I force an ‘O’ it’s not very nice. I can’t work out if it’s peri as I thought, or maybe it’s the Mirena coil I needed for frequent heavy periods.
Has anyone had the libido come back after the coil is out?

I’ve had a mirena for over 20 years and never had an issue with libido till menopause. I may as well be dead from the waist down now .
I still have the mirena as part of (successful apart from libido) HRT

Yes, dead from the waist down!

This was me - until I discovered testosterone 👍 Had to have the blood test first though - testosterone was low and SHBG abnormal.

Waitingfortulips · 30/12/2023 17:23

Yes. And testosterone is the solution.

And @Waitingfortulips Ive been wondering whether to investigate testosterone, but a bit reticent as other than libido, my HRT is perfectly balanced and I don’t want to jeapordise that

But if your testosterone is low, it won't impact your existing positive hormonal state, it will just improve it.

I'm on mirena coil too.

I take testosterone and it gave me more energy, I do have a but more libido but I struggle with vaginal atrophy so don't really fancy sex because of that. Can't speak to O's as that's not a thing for me.

I didn't really want sex for the last few years and then realised I couldn't feel anything inside which was basically because of my meno prolapses.

But I'd recommend the T.

I don’t know if adding testosterone will upset your HRT balance but I can confirm that testosterone has definitely enhanced my HRT experience.
I think I need more oestrogen but the GP thinks it’s unnecessary as I am already on their max prescribed dose of 4 pumps of gel.

Wid · 31/12/2023 13:11

@Leftoversgalore
I’ve been prescribed Vagirux in the last 6 months. This, together, with testosterone has made me go from avoiding sex to actually wanting it again.

Heyhoherewegoagain · 31/12/2023 13:14

@Wid@Leftoversgalore thanks for sharing that information. I’ll definitely at least discuss it with my GP in the new year-if only for the increased energy!

Wid · 31/12/2023 13:41

@Heyhoherewegoagain
HRT might have sorted anxiety, libido and vaginal atrophy, but energy, fatigue, motivation… I’ve still a long way to go.
GP actually said to me recently when I mentioned ongoing fatigue, “That’s life”.

DustyLee123 · 31/12/2023 14:07

For fatigue try vit B complex.

I'm not sure what's in the coil but could they not have controlled your heavy periods with progesterone-only HRT?

Testosterone works for some women, but doesn't for others. Worth a try.
