Is anyone else just generally hotter than usual during peri/menopause?

I get the odd hot flushes but that’s much better since starting HRT but generally I am just waaaay hotter than everyone around me. I’ll be in a T-shirt, everyone else is in jumpers. I feel like this is a symptom which affects me all the time and is really miserable (though obviously easier to manage in winter). Before meno I was always cold and have a wardrobe full of jumpers I can’t even conceive wearing now and a puffa type coat which I haven’t worn for about 2 yrs now!

Yes, although mainly at night (but no hot flushes). Even though it's winter I have a summer-weight duvet, open window, no heating on in the morning...

Moredarkchocolateplease · 18/12/2023 09:47

Yes. I can't sit in the sitting room at night when our heating is on. DH sits wrapped in a rug and I lie blowing air into my fringe. That and the restless legs means I don't spend much time on the sofa at all!.

But perversely I'm always freezing in the car and DH melts.

MincepiesAreOneOfYourFiveADay · 19/12/2023 16:35

Not just me then 😖 I get hot flushes too but that is on top of just generally being too hot anyway, it's really miserable.

Yes, I love waltzing about in winter with no coat on. Although it's only me and DD in the house and sometimes I forget I'm freezing her to death by not putting the heating on because I dont realise until she comes downstairs with two oodies and a jumper on

HundredMilesAnHour · 19/12/2023 16:44

Yes, I overheat VERY quickly and literally have sweat running down my face if I try to do anything. I used to be one of those people who was always cold. Now I'm hot if I move. I'm mightily sick of it.

PurplePoppyFields · 19/12/2023 16:46

I am! I was having loads of hot flushes but after cutting out have all alcohol, spicy/fatty food, coffee and only drinking decaf tea, they seem to have mostly gone. But I’m always warmer than everyone else, I haven’t even worn a coat this year and I can’t even think of wearing thick jumpers or anything with a high neckline.... 🥵

Bichette · 19/12/2023 16:47

Yes me. I'm 58 and my internal thermostat is all over the place. It's worse in the winter when going from a warm house to cold outside, I just can't seem to regulate myself any more.

Gwenhwyfar · 19/12/2023 16:49

I wish!

Sheldoncoopersspot · 19/12/2023 16:50

I break out in a sweat even just seeing people all wrapped up. I'm still currently sleeping with 2 fans on full blast and my cooling blanket.

PurplePoppyFields · 19/12/2023 16:56

@Sheldoncoopersspot Same, I can’t sleep without a fan on me now. Are cooling blankets good? I’ve never looked into them much but I’m ‘only’ 44 and this could go on for years yet so think maybe I should try one.

gotomomo · 19/12/2023 16:58

I'm sitting in a summer dress, everyone else has jumpers on, 2 years and counting!

I love my cooling blanket its lovely and cold. I saw a recommendation on here about them and bought one it's from Amazon,dd loved it that much I had to order her one and ds now wants one for summer. I paid around £30 for mine and it covers my king size bed.

dudsville · 19/12/2023 17:24

Me too, and I'm in summer dresses too. I sweated droplets in a meeting earlier, in my summer dress while younger female colleagues and men were in jumpers. Thankfully it's a kind team and no one said anything and just behaved normally, but i was patting away actual sweat whilst discussing a serious thing. Generally though I'm just warm, and get little waves of warmth while dh is in layers of fleece. It's been this way a few years now. I'm 10 months since my last period, and last year i only had 5 or 6 (one went on a long time, or it was two seperate periods, i couldn't tell). I look forward to having a stable body temp.

Mairzydotes · 19/12/2023 17:26

I think I'm in early peri and I've noticed I'm much warmer this winter than I usually am . I haven't need my gloves as much. Not been wearing my puffer much either.I'm not at the hot flush stage yet, just running warm

Dilbertian · 19/12/2023 17:42

I'm nearly always either too hot or too cold since peri. At least the hot flushes have eased off, for the most part.

It's weird.

PurplePoppyFields · 19/12/2023 17:53

@Sheldoncoopersspot Thank you for that, I’ll have a look and get one. It will be great to feel cooler overnight, I might even sleep through. 🤞

Just mentioned it to my partner and he said ‘oh so if you have a cooling blanket, maybe we can sleep without the fan on’.....Then I told him that you sleep with a cooling blanket and 2 fans on so not to get his hopes up. 🤣

MincepiesAreOneOfYourFiveADay · 20/12/2023 05:15

Oh it’s good to hear from fellow sufferers! I felt like I was the only person going through this. It’s hard to explain, it’s not a hot flush as such it’s just being too hot all the time.
@HundredMilesAnHour - absolutely the same about overheating. My husband walked in on me in dining room yesterday, I had no trousers on and he said ‘why have you got no……ah’ and then just carried on as normal, he’s getting used to it now! (Disclaimer, I actually had taken my trousers off to try on something I was hemming up but then decided it was more comfortable without them on so just carried on sewing as I was 😄).

I look longingly at cosy jumpers now - couldn’t possibly wear them and totally agree about getting stressed out seeing people all bundled up, especially in shops where it’s so hot. I do feel that wearing short sleeves where everyone else is in woolly jumpers I might as well have a flashing neon sign around my neck saying ‘I’m menopausal’ 😳

I dont have the hot flashes, but find first thing in morning I have am hot, not sweaty hot, just hot!

I am able to wear jumpers but only if really cold outside.

What we have to go through!

"My husband walked in on me in dining room yesterday, I had no trousers on and he said ‘why have you got no……ah’ and then just carried on as normal"@MincepiesAreOneOfYourFiveADay that made me laugh, very like our home life.

I haven't had proper hot flushes for a while. Two older friends of mine had them for approx 10 years each. Mine, so far, were more like a raging fire that burned solidly for a few months ... and then that was it, just these waves of warmth, occasionally to the point of sweating. That raging fire though left me feeling giddy the whole time. I have so much respect for women who manage all these changes and just carry on. I've sat through through so many important meetings feeling like i was just going to burn out!
