Peri and period not stopping

beck1976 · 12/12/2023 02:07

I am peri stage and for my last 3 cycles have had light bleeding from about day 21 of my cycle (period used to start anytime from 21-28 days average) which carries on for about a month then around day 51 my actual period arrives with heavy flow and lasts for around 7 days possibly longer this month.
I had started taking Maca root powder back in the spring which is said to be helpful in regulating hormones and cycles during peri then stopped a few weeks ago as I worried it was messing up my periods more? Now I don’t know whether to take it again or not.

You could try HRT, or have a mirena coil. I had three periods of flooding in 6 weeks last year and was neatly anaemic as this had been going on for a few years.

Now I have the mirena and no bleeding plus iron tablets and I feel normal again.

Or get some transexamic acid which works brilliantly too.

The transexamic acid sounds like something I would consider trying, only problem is my GP surgery are useless and I will never be able to get an appointment, so wondering if this is available from a pharmacist instead?

I'm not sure. Can you do an econsult and just ask for it?

I would with my surgery. They are brilliant at econsult responses.
