Coming Off HRT

I have just weaned myself off Oestrogel & Pro Vera over about 5 days. Can’t remember exactly how long I’ve been on HRT but it’s a fair few years ( had various things). The gynaecologist advised me to come off as I have a lot of fibroids which can thrive on oestrogen. I have a pelvic MRI next week to take a closer look. I’m feeling quite unsettled & emotional & waiting for bleeding as I was told that would probably happen when I stopped the progesterone. The gynaecologist gave me some alternative menopause treatments but I wondered if anyone could recommend anything? I’m aiming for a hysterectomy but the gynaecologist told me it’s a major operation & there’s a year long waiting list. I didn’t think it was a major op these days.

Can't help with the coming off HRT sadly but absolutely a hysterectomy is a major op. I had a vaginal one and seriously underestimated it. Totally worth it in the end though so don't let it put you off if you think it's what you need. Just prep carefully for it.

They tell you it’s a major OP until you’re on the list and then they tell you that recovery it much quicker than it used to be. I’m waiting for hysterectomy, I’m 42 and have been told recovery should be pretty quick due to my age, they are doing it vaginally and leaving in my ovaries. I am on HRT for peri symptoms but about to come off it as the side effects are worse than my symptoms.

I should add I had repair work too plus complications and extra surgery, so mine was probably worse than most. Even so, 6 weeks minimum really, with the first few weeks pretty difficult. Mine took 3 -6 months!

I have stopped my HRT in the last 2 weeks. I was on oestrogel and Provera tablets. I had a medium flow period for 3 days and that was it.
I have bought some supplements to try and I’ll be asking my GP about using a localised estrogen cream to ward of atrophy.

I’m nearly 53 and 2 years post menopause. I haven’t taken anything. Don’t feel much different. Hot flushes stopped about 6 months ago. Am slightly dryer but use Sylk occasionally but mostly don’t need it. Maybe see how you go.

I have been on prometrium and estrogel for a year and I feel my hips definately got bigger and its harder to lose weight. Has anyone come off and lost weight ?
