Hello, I have sore knees and now sore elbows, hips and back. Have just started HRT at 57. Has anyone had any benefit. The muscle/joint pain feels like it’s spread over a month (pre HRT).

Yes it helped my joint pain

Taff67 · 27/11/2023 17:53

It really helped me - my knee was so painful prior to starting HRT but I was able to start back running within a week.

RuthW · 27/11/2023 17:54

I'm the same. I'm trying my hardest not to go on HRT.

I have knee pain while on HRT and find that taking vitamin D every other day really helps get rid of the pain .

AzureBlue99 · 27/11/2023 17:56

I had ankle and foot pain. Not on HRT. Started taking tumeric and it alleviated it in a few days. Comes back if I stop taking it.

Ruthietuthie · 27/11/2023 17:56

I have been taking HRT for a month and it has made such a difference to my creaky knees. I was feeling so old - painful to go up and down stairs - and now I feel like a teenager again. It is REMARKABLE (and the hot flushes are gone, thank goodness).

My joints are much better on progesterone days. I’ve found cod liver oil capsules help too.

CapaldiQueen · 27/11/2023 18:32

thank you for all your replies. Feel I haven fallen apart so quickly. I am also scratching the life out of my upper back in my sleep and then it’s sore as well with scratches and sensations. Oh dear. Hoping the HRT will help at least one thing.

Before I started HRT I had dreadful pain in my legs and hips I couldn’t walk up stairs without being in agony. It’s disappears since I started Hrt.

CapaldiQueen · 29/11/2023 07:01

Thank you. Glad it worked for you and hoping mine will ease off too.

Try fish oil capsules twice a day, if you're not already taking them. Also, curcumin capsules or tablets.

DramaAlpaca · 29/11/2023 23:29

I started HRT eighteen months ago at 58. I found it has really helped my joint pains, especially my creaky knees.

Ruthietuthie · 29/11/2023 23:37

I did try lots of supplements (from Siberian rhubarb, which is meant to help with hot flashes, to fish oil). I am not sure if any of it helped me.
Honestly, within a week of starting HRT I was astonished. I felt year's younger. I thought all my sore joints were just something I had to put up with. Now they are GONE. And my skin looks better. I am sleeping better. Even my libido is better. My poor husband doesn't know what hit him!

Yes, I had terrible joint pain from the onset of perimenopause (44ish). HRT has sorted it out. I do have a bit of osteoarthritis so my knees still aren't great but I'm no longer experiencing that awful achiness in the morning.

CapaldiQueen · 03/12/2023 16:44

That’s good you had some relief. Hoping this will ease. It’s only been a couple of weeks of HRT but the bilateral elbow pain and knee pain isn’t stopping yet 😔

I found that HRT didn’t help my joint pain at all. It was really disappointing after reading so many posts like those above. So hopefully you’ll be one of the lucky ones but, don’t pin all your hopes on it.

CapaldiQueen · 03/12/2023 17:43

Thank you. Sorry HRT didn’t help you. has anything helped you with your joint pain.

Not so far. Weight loss alleviated my foot and knee pain to some extent, but obviously had no effect on arms etc

Hi there,
I am 58 and ache so much! My hips, knees, wrists, back, also my groin aches sometimes. I really think that there's something wrong with me.
I am debating whether to go onto HRT but it scares me with the cancer link.

My menopause specialist not newson gave me all the statistics and information that I needed that program has now caused a huge increase in scaremongering. Go and speak with a knowledgeable specialist tell them how you feel and see what they can do to help you.

Davina actually did a very good live with a specialist a few days ago which is worth a listen.

Winks1966 · 09/10/2024 11:43

Thank you for your reply. I work in a GP Practice so will speak to someone here, interestingly enough, some GP's here are on HRT so surely they wouldn't do that if it wasn't safe

KnottedTwine · 09/10/2024 11:44

Me too - had pain in my knees and also finger joints. HRT has helped a lot.

Winks1966 · 09/10/2024 13:15

Have you had aches in hip/back/groin?

Mudflaps · 09/10/2024 13:47

I found hrt helped with joint pain, migraine, hot flushes, sleep and yes, the itch. I used to keep a back scratcher beside the key bowl and use it a few times a day, now I never need it. I had to change from patch to gel due to shortages and was without anything for two days, the itch returned and the leg pains were back very quickly, I'm settling into the gel now thankfully. Best of luck.
