How long did you miss periods before they stopped altogether?

Hi everyone.

I’m 46.5 and my period is two weeks late (obviously not pg as am basically a eunuch these days). Last year of periods have been a bit heavier and lasted a day longer but overall pretty regular. Anyway, just wondering how long you missed periods before your very last one? Trying to prepare myself. Don’t think I was quite ready for menopause yet, but here I seem to be.

Mine had never been desperately regular, but age 42 I had one that lasted 6 weeks, and then nothing at all for maybe 6 months? A couple of months after I had another that lasted just one day and that was it.

Ladypugs60 · 15/11/2023 18:23

Mine were always right on time every month, then I noticed they were not 'quite right', becoming less frequent and a lot lighter. I think I missed two, then I thought "that's that then, I've finally shut up shop" I was 49.
The very best thing for me going through the menopause was that the terrible migraines that plagued me when I had period completely stopped, every cloud!

Spacie · 15/11/2023 18:38

Extreme case here.

I was regular as clockwork until the last one. (age 48). I'd just bought a menstrual cup too.

Like @Ladypugs60 I was suffering from monthly migraines which actually carried on milder for a bit before petering out a couple of years later.

hilbil21 · 15/11/2023 18:40

I'm 43 and my periods have been like clockwork since I was 12! For the first time ever (apart from pregnancy) I'm 16 days late and a light one appeared today.

Knittedfairies · 15/11/2023 18:47

I didn't miss any periods, they were lighter but still as regular as clockwork until they just stopped. I was 56.

cookiee · 15/11/2023 18:48

Hi So ive not had a period for 6 months then all of a sudden I had one it was so heavy and lasted 2 weeks with no sign of stopping so doc put me I provera and within 2 days I'd stopped bleeding but awful lower back pain.
My question is has anyone else had provera and had back pain ??
Not sure if the back pain is due to provera or menopause but I don't normally suffer with back ache.
Thanks

I had about 18months of lengthening cycles and then a really heavy period that went on and on . I had some spotting about 6 months later then that was it . I’m 50. I had night sweats from about 43/4 though and sleep issues.

shellyleppard · 15/11/2023 18:59

I was pre menopausal for about 8 years. Periods were extremely heavy , then nothing for six months then heavy again. My doctor sent me to the gynaecologist at the hospital and had the coil. Four years later I'm finally through the menopause. Hallelujah!!!

Dontcallmescarface · 15/11/2023 19:04

I didn't. I had them every 3-6 weeks and never missed any, they just stopped.

crackofdoom · 15/11/2023 19:08

Mine were gradually getting lighter, then stopped for 4 months. I was so excited!! And I started feeling better, and it was definitely easier to lose weight. Then, the last couple of months, they have come back again. Beyond pissed off. And I've been struggling to lose even a couple of lbs. (I'm 49).

Just do one womb, fucking do one 😡

Theoldcuriosityshop · 15/11/2023 19:46

Mine were regular every 4 weeks, then they just stopped. Hardly any symptoms, just a bit sweaty at night. I was incredibly lucky I think, not one hot flush even.

Taylorscat · 15/11/2023 19:48

Missed 6 months then a period so heavy I flooded for 6 weeks and ended up with a d&c

now, went 10 months without a period and last two months have had very light periods . I knew they were coming as my hot flushes stopped. I don’t mind this situation- light short painless periods and no hot flushes suit me fine.

MyDogSmellsTerrible · 15/11/2023 19:50

Mine went longer and longer in between for years. I finally thought I was done but had one at 11 and a half months.

No idea of I'll have another one, that was about 4 months ago.

junebirthdaygirl · 15/11/2023 19:58

In my early fifties mine just stopped. A year later l went on a flight and immediately on arrival my period started. No period for another year, back on a flight and another one came. So wierd! Never had one since even though l have been on a few flights.

This is exactly what happened to me. Went for 13 months without a period then had them for three months, regular as clockwork. Went another year, then had another one. Last one was at age 53. But I did notice that I had signs of ovulation when I didn't have any periods.

Watto1 · 15/11/2023 20:55

About 18 months ago I went 10 weeks without a period but after that they went back to being as regular as clockwork. Then 6 months ago I had a 24 day period which was horrific and made me anaemic. Now it is 9 weeks since my last one and I’ve got everything crossed that this is it. Im 50.

RuthW · 15/11/2023 20:56

They went every 7 months for about three years then stopped age 53

Titsywoo · 15/11/2023 21:01

I'm not post menopausal but have definitely been peri for about 5 years - periods started getting very erratic 2 years ago and this year I am having very big gaps 106 days then 79 so will see what happens next!

PickAChew · 15/11/2023 21:02

I missed every other period for a few cycles, then went 6 months without, then a whole year without then that was it.

Before I started skipping them, they had been closer together (26-28 days instead of 30-32) and quite light for a few years so most months I had one absolutely dreadful day then needed no more than a pantyliner.

TryingToMakeSenseOfIt · 15/11/2023 21:05

I didn't even BEGIN to miss periods until I was 52! Then, I had years of very heavy (huge clots, awful flooding) ones, lasting 2 or 3 weeks, every 4 or 5 weeks. I had lots of scans, blood tests, hormone tablets, biopsie of my womb, etc.

My periods eventually stopped just a few months before I was 60!

daffodilandtulip · 15/11/2023 22:45

I'm not there yet, mine have been erratic for a few years but this year have gone very light, for just a day or two - but every other bloody week!!

WotNoUserName · 15/11/2023 22:50

My cycles were always pretty regular, between 25-29 days. Then in 2019 I had a 56 day cycle. (Luckily no panic as I was single) and back to regular.
In 2021 I had a couple of longer 40 day cycles, a 24 day period (doctor prescribed tranexamic acid to stop it) and a 72 day cycle.

2022 I was regular again, then this year normal cycles, 2 of 51 and 55 days and I'm currently on day 77 of my cycle and no sign of period. I did have some pain last week, so wonder if that was ovulation and I'm going to come on soon. I make sure I carry supplies after being caught out on a hike on one of my other long cycles (luckily near a town so diverted!)

I'm 47, and started when I was 10, so I'm sooooo over having periods.

Only other symptoms is hot flushes (plus side - I haven't needed the heating on yet!)

gotomomo · 15/11/2023 23:12

I'm currently 3 weeks late ... I'm thinking this could be it. Been super light for 5 months, but regular, before that I had a couple of missed ones but regular before

Pablova · 15/11/2023 23:28

Age 51, periods have been erratic for around 18 months. Varying from 10 day to 60 day cycles. Started on HRT 2 months ago.
Had 3 heavy 12 day cycles in a row and currently on day 55 and two days of horrendous cramps and light spotting tonight.
Really important work day tomorrow, WFM but have to commute for 1.5 hrs to office tomorrow for a big presentation and pretty sure I’m going to wake up in the morning bleeding like something to rival the battle of bannockburn. Not impressed at all.

Theres no rhyme or reason to it , I’d not take a two week delay as a sign menopause is imminent, it can drag on for months / years.

Flights always bring on a period for me. We went away for Christmas in 2021, beach holiday and as soon as we landed I got my period accompanied with awful cramps, bank ache and nausea, was not one bit impressed.
