Breast pain

I'm in early perimenopause (age 39) and have been using Everol 25 (was on 50 but reduced due to bad skin/acne flare ups with no previous acne problem) and Utrogestan 100mg continuous.

I started the patches first for 4 weeks while I waited for a coil fit, and when that was unsuccessful I was prescribed the Utrogestan.

Since taking the Utrogestan (2 months now) I have had unbelievably sore nipples/heavy breasts which seems to be persistent. Has anyone else had this side effect?

I am due a blood test next week but totally clueless to HRT as didn't expect to be going through it so early, and have no peers to advise! My mother went through it early also but did not use HRT.

Also, to add, I tried the sequential patch before I tried the Utrogestan and the progesterone patch part gave me the worst anxiety so that's why they gave me the Utrogestan. No I have no crippling anxiety but the breast pain side effect.

Hiya

I’m 39 too and just been started on HRT. I have random sore boobs, sometimes it’s just the one. It’s really annoying and can make you feel uneasy. I know sometimes it can mean too much oestrogen so maybe speak to GP about it? Also happy for you to DM me as I don’t know anyone else my age going through this!

I'm 48 and in perimenopause. I take daily Oestrogel and utrogestan for 14 days on, 14 days off. I also suffered from sore/uncomfortable boobs. My doctor advised me to take Evening Primrose Oil and that has sorted the boob issues for me. Good luck!

Hi @existentialbread just wondering why you have been prescribed the utrogestan continuously when peri. Continuous HRT is usually when you have not had a natural period for over 12 months. If you’re peri it is usually prescribed as 12 -14 days a month.
when is first started utrogestan I had sore boobs for about 2 months then it stopped.

I had horrendous breast pain a couple of years ago (I was 63 then). I don't take HRT as l think l was fairly lucky going through menopause, l never felt the need for it. I was given one course by my GP several years ago, the type you have when your periods have stopped, but l started to bleed again when l was taking it! Told my GP, she said "Oh, it's not for you, then!" and l never took it again.
And didn't bleed again, either.
The breast pain was really bad, particularly on one side, which was the side l always had bad pre menstrual breast tenderness before menopause. l was asked to wait a while to see if it improved, which it didn't, so l was sent to see a consultant. He said he could feel a lump (I couldn't) so l had a mammogram and an ultrasound. Both clear.
They didn't really suggest anything at the hospital, so l did a bit of digging online, and found evening primrose to be highly recommended. I take that every day now, nothing expensive, just one from Tesco, and that seems to have just about sorted things out. I do get the odd twinge now and again, but nothing like the stabbing, burning pain l had previously.
I'd suggest giving it a try, if you haven't already. I've found it really helpful.
