Perimenopause, take HRT, but still have “symptoms”. Anyone else?

I am on HRT and have been for about 9 months. It’s helped a lot. I no longer wake up feeling “nervous” for no reason, headaches are gone, major rage has subsided.

But, at the back end of the month, I still feel constipated from the progrestrone, and I still feel depressed and mildly ragey. I’m also getting frequent urine infections and have almost no sex drive apart from about 2 days mid cycle.

Is this just the normal ebb and flow of the cycle? Or do others on hrt have these symptoms flattened out?

What are you on ?
Sounds like you need vaginal oestrogen for the UTI’s. And testosterone for your libido.

increase your wholefoods, fruit and veg at this time? Drink more water?

Start using vaginal estrogen as well.

You don't say what type of hrt you're using. If it's gel, some women find it helps to increase it slightly in the 2nd half of the cycle to offset the negative effects of Utrogestan.

It’s gel - I will try increasing it slightly! I went back from 4 pumps to 3 when I was excessively sleepy in the day and then read there was a link!

Maybe I’ll go 3.5 at the back half of the month!

I took an extra half a pump today but feel on the serious war path! I wonder if maybe HRT doesn’t work properly for me? Or maybe it’s something else?

Yes I still have symptoms, HRT has never got rid of them all, only improved. Symptoms are worse when I'm stressed and when I drink and also depending which formulation I get, as my pharmacist is always switching between the two (and this may be placebo but I notice it). At the moment am struggling with anxiety and joint pain. Prior to that it was dry itchy skin.

I still have loads of symptoms. Every time my prescription runs out I have to see a different doctor and they change my doses, but nothing seems to work.

Testosterone didn’t help my libido, and now the new doctor says my testosterone level is too high so once again my meds are being changed without having resolved anything.

I’m so jealous of all the women on here who say ‘I was prescribed HRT and within a week I was a new woman’.
