Feeling very low...not sure why - help!

Hi there,

I'm 48, for a number of years I was peri, over a year ago I started taking ultroestan (not sure of spelling sorry) and oestrogel.. I took ultrogestan every evening as instructed by my doctor as I had horrendous anxiety. This initially helped massively. I've not had any break through bleeding either. The oestrogel I always struggled with, it made me feel jittery and angry. So I could only take small amounts at a time,

Now I'm about 4 months in without having a period. I thought - great! I'm on my way out of this mess 😂 But for the past month I've felt awful, really really low. No motivation to do anything, hyper sensitive and just very emotional. Taking the oestrogel just seems to make me feel worse.

I'm not sure if a more even amount of oestrogen with a patch would be better? Currently every morning I'm waking up feel so rubbish it's terrible. I can't feel like this constantly as I'm a single full time parent to one child.

Help, any advice?

It’s the oestrogen which is the part of HRT that helps your symptoms, with the progesterone component there largely to protect the health of your uterus, so without the oestrogel, you’re effectively untreated. No wonder you are having what was, for me, one of the worst symptoms of perimenopause.

You need to go back to your GP and get a different form of oestrogen. I’m on Evorel patches and they work brilliantly for me.

Ok thank you!

Which one is better evorel or estrodot? x

I’m sorry but I have only tried Evorel, so I can’t say either way. But have a look on the many other HRT threads here and you should find a consensus. Ultimately though, what works for you is important, so you might have to try a couple of methods before you hit on the right one. I was lucky that it happened for me on the first try.

I hope you feel much better and more like the old you soon.

I have found patches much better than gel for anxiety and low mood. Estrodot has advantage of being much smaller but it's been out of stock a lot this year so I'm back on Evorel which works well too but is a much bigger patch.

Everol is brilliant.

Agree with PP that it sounds like you have a massive amount of progesterone without the wonderful benefits of the oestrogen.

You might find you need to start low and then increase the dose.

My go prescribed me evorel 26 yesterday and I had a disaster with it. About 3 hours after taking it I started getting a dull headache and had palpitations. I got no sleep as I was too wired and felt like I was on speed. Gradually my headache progressed into the beginning of a migraine, so I had no choice but to rip the patch off last night.

I managed to fall asleep a few hours later. But it really doesn't agree with me.

So back to square one! I think I'm going to try using my oestrogel more regularly, little and often. I don't get migraines and can sleep using it. Possibly my problem was that I wasn't using it regularly enough to see the results. And as you say I had way too much progesterone in my body.
