Itchy scalp - shampoo recommendations?

Any recommendations for a good shampoo and conditioner, esp for grey/ silver hair? I’ve gone through three different types and yet my scalp is itchy as anything (i checked for nits too 🙈)

My hair is prone to frizzy and dry and i’m quite silver so usually use the purple tone ones to stop it going brassy

Wella products always worked for my itchy scalp. I don’t get it anymore since I stopped dying my hair in lockdown.

Body Shop ginger shampoo

Head and Shoulders Dermax

T Gel

AutumnCrow · 04/11/2023 21:09

Have you tried T-Gel and Polytar Plus?

Philip Kingsley

But it might need a treatment scalp mask thing

LittleMy77 · 04/11/2023 21:15

I haven’t tried tgel or head and shoulders as it’s not flaky / dandruff like and I assumed it’d dry my hair out further

Will try and pick up a couple of these suggestions this week

Try cooler water and less heat if it's just itchy.

I use neutrogenia T-gel but make sure you buy the one with coal tar and not the other one.

I use it once a week for scalp eczema and it helps prevent/ treat flare ups.

I use Vosene (the normal not frequent) when my scalp is itchy.

Nizoral- it gives me a good 3/4 weeks without itching/sores.

I’ve had this and was convinced I had head lice, started using my daughters nittygritty comb and definitely didn’t have any. I found simple shampoo/conditioner didn’t make it worse like a lot of products did. But what really stopped it was fasting. I tend to fast 19 - 20 hours a day now as it helps this and my other issues too.

I get a really itchy scalp so often and I use Redken Scalp Relief shampoo and it really soothes it.

Capasal coal tar shampoo, I use the original but there is a coconut scented version if you don't want your hair smelling of coal tar! 😀

@LittleMy77 It's the purple shampoo. I'm also grey and use a purple shampoo once - twice a week but it's very drying and can give you an itchy scalp.
Maybe cut down on the shampoo and use purple conditioner?

BeautifulBirds · 04/11/2023 22:21

Anything without SLS, it's bloody awful stuff.

poetrylover · 05/11/2023 20:16

I use head and shoulders as I get an itchy scalp. Need to use a good conditioner afterwards though as my hair is also frizzy. If I use a different shampoo the itch comes back.
