Using Evorel Conti during perimenopause

I've been using Evorel 50 patches for the last few months to alleviate some perimenopausal symptoms (am 46). But my GP prescribed Evorel Conti (not Sequi), even though I'm pretty sure I'm in peri and not actual menopause yet.

I've been on the mini pill (Cerelle) for the last 6 years, and so haven't had a period for about 5 years. I sometimes get a small amount of breakthrough bleeding/spotting, but that's it. Because of this, the GP said I should use Conti patches because there's no need for me to have a monthly "period" if I don't currently have periods. She confirmed that the progesterone in Cerelle is not the same type as needed for HRT, so I'd need a combined patch (which is fine) - although she also suggested I could swap to a Mirena coil if I wanted to streamline things. But everything I've read about this says that Conti is ONLY for post-menopausal women who don't have periods - there's no guidance about perimenopausal women who don't have periods!

Is there anyone else in this position (using Conti patches during peri) - or do I need to go back and ask to be switched to Sequi? The GP seemed pretty adamant that it was fine to use continuous HRT in peri, but I'd feel better about it if I knew I wasn't the only one!

I’m 46, peri, and on the Conti. Could have had a Mirena, but would rather not. I have to have the constant hormones due to migraine.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! Everything I've read on here and elsewhere says that Conti is ONLY for post-meno women, so it's reassuring to see that that isn't necessarily true.

Yes I'm in this position. Tried Sequi but kept having frequent migraines so after the 3 month check my GP changed me to Conti and the attacks have become less often.
I am currently having spotting but I had this occasionally before HRT and there doesn't seem to be a problem.

I'm on Evorel Conti 50 patches and on the mini pill with no periods, been on that for a year now, about to go up to 75 patches as some symptoms are coming back but overall its been fine

LostMySocks · 06/11/2023 16:39

I'm on the Conti patches but with Utrogestan. I have to have a 3 day break each month.
Symptoms are a lot better but I have a lot of spotting so need to go for a review

Thanks all, that's really reassuring!

Hello everyone
I am 49 and take cerelle as I have entrometrosis and periods were horrendous… I’ve started during the last week the HRT patches evorel conti to help my premenopausal symptoms (mainly night sweats , brain fog , weight gain) and I’m just checking if this is a good combination and rhat I am not getting too much progesterone being on both…. Have no interest in coming off cerelle… advise and thoughts welcome x

@DME1975 this regime is fine see this video from 6mins explains your situation. If you get progesterone side effects 1 option could be change your patch to oestogen only and increase cerelle/desogestal to 2 tablets a day.
