Worried about weight gain

So I’ve just turned 39 and went into premature menopause about a year ago. For the past 18 months I’ve worked so hard and lost 6 stone. My symptoms have became so bad that I’ve finally given in and started hrt today. Im really worried about weight gain. May sound vain but after working so hard and putting the effort in the last thing I want is to pile it all back on. Is it a given that you gain weight on it? I had the mirena coil in for ten years and found it so hard to lose weight. Once I had it out it literally dropped off (along with keto and intermittent fasting). Just looking for people’s experiences I guess

HRT is a much lower dose than the coil? I’m about to start HRT too, I think as long as you exercise and continue doing what you are doing now all should be fine.

@Lovemusic82 is it? I have no idea it’s all new to me. Thank you I think I’m going to just be super careful with my diet. Can’t exercise much at the moment as waiting for surgery on my knee (another story 😂)

I spoke to my gp last week as I was worried I wouldn’t be able to take HRT due to me having issues with every form of hormonal contraception that I have tried over the year, I was told that HRT is a much lower dose than the Pill or the coil.

A lot of medication supposedly makes people gain weight but that’s rarely true, medication might make you feel more hungry but it’s over eating that makes you gain weight, so as long as you have the will power to stick to what you are doing now you should be ok.

You might actually find you lose weight on it because you won’t have all the peri menopause symptoms, I know when I’m not feeling rights or when I’m feeling hormonal I tend to eat more.

HI OP, I gained three stone during perimenopause unmedicated and actually lost the weight through good diet/exercise once I was on HRT, so I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's much harder to keep off as you get older though but I don't think that HRT's fault! As you are younger it mightn't be so much of an issue.

I'm passed the menopause and recently took myself in hand to lose over a stone. It was no harder to lose the weight now than when I did it in my forties. I read somewhere that there is no reason for women to gain weight because of menopause but so many blame it for being overweight. The same goes for blaming medication for weight gain. I'm sure some medications can make us feel hungry but doubt they are as responsible as some people make out.
Sounds like you have your head in the right place to keep the weight off. Keep positive, stay focussed. Go girl!

HRT made no difference to my weight at all. It has only had very positive side effects
