HRT cold turkey - feeling terrible!

Due to a return of my periods, my GP advised me to come off HRT for 6 weeks until things settle down (or will be offered a scan if they don't) I was on 2/3 pumps of Oestrogel and I also have a mirena.

I'm feeling absolutely terrible - mood crash, aches, shaking etc. Has anyone else has to do this and does anything help manage the sudden return of menopause symptoms?

If you have unusual bleeding - which you have as the bleeding has returned - you should be sent for a scan now and seen under the 2 week rule.

If I were you I’d go on 1 pump for a week to reduce rather than stop it.

I've seen this 'problem' here a few times and it baffles me why GPs do this.

So many questions....!

Prior to HRT, was the Mirena stopping all your periods?

Is your Mirena within the use-by date as part of your HRT? 'Cos if it's old, it won't be working.

What is stopping for 6 weeks going to prove?

If your periods are natural, but no longer being controlled by the Mirena, surely they might keep coming month after month?

And finally, if you weren't post-menopause when you started HRT, bleeding for up to 6 months when using combined continuous (which is what the Mirena gives you) is regarded as normal and nothing to worry about.

So what will stopping show?

Oh- and one more point, Even if you were post menopause (no natural period for 12 months) then bleeding for 6 months on estrogen + Mirena is normal.

Thanks both - really appreciate the replies.

4 months ago I upped my dose from 2 to 3 pumps and this is when the 'periods' started again. Previous to that I'd had no periods (after having mirena fitted last year and starting on HRT) The period/spotting hasn't settled despite recently reducing dose back to 2 pumps and GP is seeing this as abnormal.

GP showed me the guidance online which suggests taking a 6 week break but I genuinely had no idea I'd feel this awful. At least I now know how much the HRT has been doing to control my symptoms!

My periods returned after having the Mirena, even though I hadn't had a period for 6 months using continuous Utrogestan.
My gynaecologist said it's completely normal to bleed/spot even up to a year having changed routine and hasn't mentioned coming off HRT at all!

This is new guidance in some areas of the UK (it's come up on this forum before!)
