Ovestin - unanswered questions

Planning to start ovestin tonight but scoured leaflet for answers to questions and found none. Is it worth starting now if period due in less than 2 weeks? No mention of whether to use during period or not. Also, more importantly, can you have sex after using it? I'm still fertile (45), I assume, and we use condoms. Nothing whatsoever in leaflet 🙄

It's up to you really, when you choose to start it and how much you're suffering now.

The initial dose is 14 days to start the improvement but it's not a hard and fast rule. You just need to use it more than 2 x a week (the maintenance dose) when you start. If you only get 10 or 12 days, that's not an issue.

No, you can't use it when you have a period as it will just flow out with the blood so it will be a waste of time.

Sex- you can use it afterwards, but not immediately before as it simply won't stay in place long enough!

It's supposed to be used at bedtime so it stays in place for longer when you're lying down (or gravity and walking around will make it ooze out) although it's fine to use it during the day if you need to.

That can be a short term issue that usually clears up.

Thanks. I am away at the weekend and think I'll wait til after my period to start it then. I'm fine 14 days of the month and the other 14 days I can't bear to be around anyone. Also hope it will sort out itchy/sore vulva. Fingers crossed - point about thrush is noted, thanks.

Just in case I've misunderstood@mambojambodothetango - Ovestin is not classed as HRT and it won't do anything for mood etc if that's what you mean above ^^.

It is only to treat vaginal and bladder issues. It's not absorbed into the system and works only where it's put.
