I know this has probably been asked a 1000 times. But I feel a bit stupid not knowing the answer. I'm 46 (this year). Over the past 2 years the following has started-

-Really awful migraines when I have my period. To the point that I can't go to work.

  • I can't tolerate carbs. Any carbs I eat I get awful stomach pains.

-I get the most awful I call it "TOXIC POO" when on my period. Its worse if I eat carbs but when I have my period the first 2/3 days I am just pooing and pooing. Really stinky bright yellow soft poop. I can't really go out as I suddenly need to go.

-My periods are now every 15/17 days and properly heavy
With huge clots and soaking through my pads.

-I just feel really tired when I have my period. My legs ache and I get very hot and cold.

It is isnt it?

I’d be also considering gallbladder issues with those symptoms too

Time to make GP appointment?

funbags3 · 21/10/2023 17:16

Could well be. I have the most disgusting migraines even though I take HRT.
Get yourself an app with a meno doc.

Thanks.

@YellowRoses100 I'd not dismiss this as menopause. It sounds more like a food intolerance or even coeliac disease (which is an auto immune condition.)

if it's happening after carbs it could be gluten intolerance, or as above, coeliac.

This needs medical investigations so see your GP. You'd need blood tests and maybe a biopsy.

Many people with coeliac are not diagnosed until their 40s.

Do I have coeliac disease?

Agree with @JinglingSpringbells it is worth ruling out coeliac disease especially with the link to carbs. It is possible that it is menopause related but also that coeliac can manifest itself at the time just to add to the party.

Thanks. I've had quite a few tests about food intolerance. All came back normal. Does no one else have the poo problem when on their period?

My bowel movements are different when my period starts (more frequent, smelly), but not yellow. Worth discussing with GP.

@YellowRoses100 Coeliac is not a food intolerance issue. it's an autoimmune disease.
Unless your GP has run tests for it, you can't say you don't have it.

There are also no tests that show food intolerance.

The only test is an elimination diet.

It's common to get looser bowels during a period but not related to carbs and not yellow (this could be a liver or bile disorder.)

Please see your GP.

Chonkadoodle · 21/10/2023 21:13

Are you up to date with your smears OP? Soaking through pads doesn’t sound normal.

Watchkeys · 21/10/2023 21:17

Apart from the yellow poo, that's been my experience of having periods all my life.

It could just be a change into a new phase, it could be start of menopause, it could be a variety of things combining, or one thing that's making it all happen and isn't menopause.

See a doctor. If it's different for you, it's a change you need to get checked out, regardless of anybody else's experience or advice.

YellowRoses100 · Hi. I know it has been a long time, accidentally came across this post. How are you feeling? Hormones goes up and down, during Perimenopause.
