Ashwagandha and 5-HTP

Hi there, does anyone know if it's ok to take Ashwagandha and 5-HTP while on HRT (oestrogel and Mirena Coil). I've been recommended it by a nutritional therapist to support my adrenal glands (Ashwagandha - for stress) and to raise serotonin (5-HTP) - I've taken it before whilst not on HRT and it was quite helpful. I just wasn't sure what was and wasn't appropriate to take while on HRT. Thanks.

I'm on HRT and I'm taking it. I think I saw one of the menopause experts on instagram say it's okay, but I get that isn't like hearing your doctor say it. Im shamelessly place marking so I can find out too!

Thanks, oh and she also suggested taking L-theanine, which is also supposed to have a calming influence.

Consult a pharmacist, they are experts in medicine interactions.

Anyone can call themselves a nutritional therapist. There are courses that are a weekend long and many of the credentials they use are devised by the course providers (and therefore not externally regulated or approved.)

If you need to use something else, other than HRT, it may be that your HRT isn't optimised so it's worth reviewing that first.

Ashwaghanda gave me horrible anxiety.

LadyBird1973 · 26/11/2023 14:05

I thought it was supposed to reduce anxiety. And muscle aches

So did I! I tried it 3 times. Felt chilled and calm at first then thst built up to horrible anxiety. Each time was over the course of a day.
