Contraction-like pain

I'm 49, well into peri and periods are tapering off and have become sporadic and very light so think things are grinding to a halt. I'm about 2 weeks into my current cycle and had a weird episode of fairly excruciating pain tonight, best way I can describe it is like a (very long) muscle spasm type pain, almost like javelin arse but in my uterus.

It was so bad I had to lie down and went cold and shivery, which really wasn't good as it made all my muscles tense up and that made the pain worse. I ended up taking painkillers and 2 Buscopan (I use these regularly for IBS and they're an anti spasmodic so can also be useful for period cramps) and it subsided after about 20 minutes. No bleeding and feel fine now but just wondered if anyone had had anything similar or can suggest a possible cause?

Can't see much point in seeing the GP unless it happens again tbh, had a smear recently (which was clear) and STI tests (also clear) due to some minor bleeding after sex (cervical ectropian diagnosed) so don't think it's likely to be anything sinister, probably just more peri weirdness but would be grateful for opinions/advice on what on earth it might have been Confused

I'm awake at 48 also having pains, mine are mostly gut related as I ate way too late this evening.

My thought would be ovulation pains as it subsided, maybe track for a while see if it comes back?

What's your period pain history like? I have endometriosis so I'm very used to cramps and pains, but I wonder if what you've had could also be stronger pre cramps?

Bleeding etc, I'm glad you had that checked but 100% keep testing and checking.

I had contraction pain when my periods became much heavier. Nothing took the extreme pain away. Dr should organise an ultrasound for you. Mine turned out to be adenomosis. Always worth putting your mind at rest.
