Utrogestan 300mg

Hi, 48, in Peri for 8 years and been on HRT for two and a half years - Oestrogel or patches with Utrogestan for 12 days/month. Main issues were low mood, mood swings, anxiety, insomnia, fatigue & brain fog.

I upped my Everol patch dose in July from 75 to 100 as symptoms were returning.

After two months of nothing changing, I started feeling much better from month 3. This appears to be continuing, hurrah! However, I'm getting more spotting and light bleeding now throughout the month and had heard that increasing from 200 to 300mg of Utrogestan for 12 days per month) might help.

Anyone else done this and can recommend? Do GP's know about this?

It was in guidance from the BMS a few months ago. They are concerned that women on 100mgs estrogen may need more progesterone to offset hyperplasia.

You may be able to find the links to it here if you go to the search box and use British Menopause Society use of progestogens in HRT

Your GP may be up to speed or not. It's probably advisable to increase it if you are spotting a lot. OR do 14 days ( as per the Patient Leaflet) to see if that helps. Or consider the Mirena coil.

Thanks Jingling. Good to hear there is something official I can refer to with my GP. I have a short cycle 21-23 days so usually have my period a week into taking the Utrogestan. Then I finish the tablets and have the withdrawal bleed too. This alongside the spotting is getting annoying. Hope hoping the Utro dose will help.

Yes my doctor last time spoke to her I said could I take 3 pumps of Oestrogel but she said if I did that then have to up the progesterone which I do not want to do as am very sensitive to it and get awful side effects so take it vaginally now and less side effects, as there has to be a balance between the two. If I were you I would talk to your gp or meno doctor as that is probably why you are spotting as an imbalance of hormones. I never heard of anyone on 300 Utrogesterone,. Hope you get the answer you need as it is a minefield and we all need to tweek it from time to time as symptoms change.
