Hi can anyone tell me if a FSH level of 35.6 indicates someone has gone through menopause. ? I’m 48 but still having 3 weekly although lighter bleeds. I’m also Hypothyroid and have Significant weight gain despite having labs within range. Weight gain unexplained as eat healthy and exercise.

Hi, yes my FSH was high thirties at the age of exactly 48 (was tested on my birthday so I remember!) and I got given sequential HRT on the basis of it, plus the other classic symptoms. Though I think it fluctuates so not considered reliable. I was still having periods, these do tend to get closer together then stretch out to about 5 or 6 weeks. It does sound like typical perimenopause especially the sudden weight gain, though this may be related to your thyroid too.

Do you have hot flushes, mood swings as well. I had very dry sore eyes, UTI type sensations, and sore joints and legs on waking or getting up after sitting down, I remember walking down the stairs sideways like some ancient woman. The phrase my GP used was 'oestrogen is suppressed'. HRT sorted those symptoms thankfully.

Blood tests are not reliable in peri.

The cut-off point for post menopause is 30 but you aren't post-meno as you are still having periods.

Your symptoms of weight gain are classed as peri-menopause when your body is winding down to menopause.

Menopause is the day your periods stop for good. You won't know this until 12 months after it's happened, because leading up to that you might have one or two periods a year.

Thanks for the replies
I get a lot of stiffness in my pelvis and aching legs so I’m guessing is related to Perimenopause . I don't get hot flushes. Mood swings yes. The weight gain bothers me because I cannot shift it.
