Mid 40s, with days out of every month of anxiety, low mood and palpitations. Tracking these showed they coincide with times estrogen is low and progesterone raised. When estrogen levels are higher I feel good. I haven’t had a blood test, but looking against monthly hormone charts.

At a recent check-up I asked for HRT and was prescribed a ‘natural’ alternative as I have not missed any periods. These are progesterone tablets. Many thanks to those who sent NICE guidelines.

Is estrogen alone an option, rather than HRT? If so, what is best - gel?

If you’ve still got your womb you need progesterone.

My palpitations were low ferritin, so worth checking that.
And also worth checking your thyroid at this age too.
Id suggest you also start taking vit B complex, vit D3 and K2, magnesium glycinate, and a good quality omega 3.

You don’t need to miss periods to
go on HRT, it should be treated by symptoms only x

Thank you. Will ask for HRT. I am scared of taking progesterone when symptoms are terrible on progesterone dominant days.
ferritin okay. I have heart scarring, which the palpitations fire from when the heart ‘is irritable’ (stress/insomnia/some foods/progesterone dominant days).

Could you explain the heart scarring?

I have heart scarring, which the palpitations fire from when the heart ‘is irritable’ (stress/insomnia/some foods/progesterone dominant days).

Have you had heart issues or heart surgery?

Flowerbfbfbf · 07/10/2023 13:05

@JinglingSpringbells Heart inflammation. It showed on MRI. Burning chest pains a few days after an MRNA vaccine, with the inflammation confirmed in hospital. The scarring is diffuse/patchy, not like a more substantial scar from a heart attack. It doesn’t show on echo now, but was clear as inflammation and later scars on the MRI.

Edit to add, I am not an anti-vaxxer and actually lost an older friend to Covid early on.
