I'm new to these. Can someone please tell me can you insert these capsules vaginally as I don't want to deal with any untoward side effects. The coating looks like plastic to me, do they really all dissolve away?

Yes, that’s what my GP said, though I thought I got a white discharge in my undies when I did that, so was unsure it was all absorbed.

I tried it but I still had the same side effects and eventually thickening of the uterine lining, possibly because I wasn't managing to get the capsules high enough.
A lot of women get on with them better vaginally than orally so worth a try.

I repurpose a Canestan pessary inserter

Yes just push it up as far as you can and wear a panty liner or pad as there may be some bit of stickiness but not much in underwear. It really does reduce the side effects as I was zonked out taking it orally and was bloated, could not think straight and very depressed until I stopped it and then when changed to inserting vaginally the difference was unreal, bloated feeling went, skin back to normal, was not feeling like throwing myself off a bridge as have a sensitivity to my own progesterone as many women have. I also write on box initial of day of week so tick off after take it as so easy to forget.

I need help please from fellow Utrogestan users ! I think I’ve been doing it wrong so I am prescribed it 12 days of the months so I take oestrogen for 15 days and then add in 12 days of Utrogestan then count another 15 days and then start the Utrogestan again and so on . Am I using the Utrogestan too often, could I get another few days worth of just oestrogen on its own before I have to take the awful Utrogestan again?

JinglingSpringbells · 15/12/2023 14:35

@Charla20 You're doing it the right way but you can also do it once a month, which is 12 days of of 30 or 31 days.

So, following the calendar month, you could do 1St Jan, 1st feb, 1st March.

If you are really struggling, NICE allows a long cycle - 3 months- with utrogestan for 14 days every 12 weeks.

A lot of GPs don't seem to know this but it's always been there as an option and was in the updated guidance.

Scroll down here to REGIMEN and it lists the 3-monthly cycle.

Thank you so much for answering me . I might go for the 30/31 day cycle as I absolutely hate the progesterone . It’s strange as I could always tolerate it vaginally when I was using 2 pumps of oestrogel but I changed to 50 estradot patches and for some reason , my progesterone days are now awful - very low, underconfident, stressed, angry, don’t sleep as well ( probably due to how I feel mentally). I never loved Utrogestan before but I loathe it now as I don’t tolerate it aswell - it’s strange as it’s the same dose just given a different way 🤷‍♀️. If I can get away longer with the oestrogen only , I will! My lining tends to get a bit thick so I am worried about leaving it for 3 months as much as I would love to!! Thank you for your advice x

Anyfeckinusername · 15/12/2023 14:48

What are the side effects you are all experiencing? I take it just before sleep orally but I'm getting headaches, not sure if it's related.

Charla20 · 15/12/2023 19:04

I could never take it orally as it made me very lethargic , bloated and demotivated . Vaginally has always been better prior to starting the patches . I don’t really get headaches but I have read other people do. Have you tried it vaginally? It can be a bit messy but I would advise to always wear underwear and a panti liner !
