Utrogestan - 2 capsules per night

For the last two weeks I've had my dose of Utrogestan 100mg capsules upped to two capsules per night. I am on two pumps of Estradiol. I have been on HRT for one year now but have been having post menopausal bleeding for the last couple of months. I'm still getting some bleeding. I know I need to give it some more time but is anyone else on two capsules and is there hope for the bleeding to stop?

Hi do you take it every night not just 12 days if the month?, is the bleeding a new thing? X

Yes, I take it every night as I'm post menopause. The bleeding is a new thing which I shouldn't be having. It's been investigated and all clear.

Hi, I am on 200mg utrogestan nightly. I am on a 75 mg patch, equivalent to 3 pumps of gel. I did have bleeding before, when I was on this level of oestrogen and just on 100 mg nightly.

Did the bleeding stop once you increased your dose? I wonder whether upping my oestrogen would help. My GP didn't suggest increasing the gel.

I've had a nightmare with virtually continual bleeding since about March this year when I utrogestan got increased to 2 tablets a night when I went up to 3 pumps of gel a day. Would basically be having a period or significant spotting for most of the time. I might have a 5 day window each month when that wasn't happening, but some months not even that.

Have had investigations and nothing untoward happening. Kept getting told to just give it 3 more months to let things settle down. They haven't. Finally got so fed up I went back to the doctors to ask if I could go down to 2 pumps and 1 tablet to see if that would help.

She wasn't sure it would but said I could try. So I've been doing that for the last two weeks. I changed my dose on 19th Sept. Was bleeding at the time. That stopped 5 days later and am currently on day 9 of no bleeding! I think that is the longest period with no bleeding I've had since this all began!! Don't want to get my hopes up but maybe this will work.

I'd upped my oestrogen dose as my anxiety was creeping up again and I was having sleep issues. But I think it was just too much oestrogen for me. I'd also started piling on weight and was so bloated all the time. I've decided now I'd prefer to take a slightly lower dose to keep my symptoms mostly under control and then manage the extra issues myself. Its obviously early days but its feeling like 2 pumps and 1 tablet is a better regime for me. I've also lost 6 lbs in the last two weeks. So fingers crossed. I think its very trial and error to get to something that works for you. Good luck.

When I had bleeding previously on 3 pumps of gel and 100 mg utrogestan, I went back down to 2 pumps and that seemed to do the trick. My dose was increased this time due to symptoms returning, night sweats etc and doc said I would prob need 200 mg nightly to prevent bleeding on the increased dose of oestrogen. Hope the 200 mg works for you. It is a bit of a minefield.
