Replens reaction

Used Replens for first time on Monday as I have post meno dryness. Annoyingly it does seem to have worked, but I have internal burning feeling. Didn't realise it has glycerin which I always react to. Have ordered Yes and made an doctor appointment for next week to discuss vaginal estrogen, but in the meantime what to do? Canesten, use Yes tomorrow or leave it all alone until appointment? Does canesten cause dryness?

Did you know you can buy vaginal estrogen over the counter now?
It's called Gina and is the same as Vagifem(the one from the dr on prescription.)
You can buy it at pharmacies.

Might be worth trying now?

Canestan is for thrush (fungal treatment) so not sure why you'd use that now. It could make things worse.

Always found Replens to be the devils work!

YES has been brilliant for me along with vagifem

No I didn't know that, thanks. Will look into that. I need to do more research as it was ovestin I was going to ask about.

It feels like thrush, but you're right it might just make it worse. I will wait for the Yes which seems kinder.

@Sunset88 'YES' is preferred by menopause specialists.

However, it won't reverse vaginal changes, just help them. In time, vaginal changes become worse and reach a point of no-return.

If you decide on vaginal estrogen there are two types- a cream and a tiny pessary .

Vagifem is the pessary and inserted (only.) Gina is Vagifem, with a different name.

Ovestin is a cream which is inserted and can be used externally on sore or cracked skin.

Gina is not cheap bought OTC but it may tide you over while you wait for a prescription.

Sunset I've used Yes which is great and I'm very reactive to creams down there.

Now using Ovestin which is just fab. Hadn't realised how dore I'd been getting.

Sorr

HughCanoe · 29/09/2023 08:10

Sorry - not had enough coffee yet - SORE!

Sunset88 · 29/09/2023 08:25

Thanks! I think Ovestin would be the best but will see what the doctor says. My only concern is that there's no risk of my fibroids growing. And hope I'm still counted as menopausal after a couple of bleeds (all checked out and a last hurrah seemingly).

Really wish I'd never used it as I'm sore and bleeding now. What a mess. 😔

OP posts:
JinglingSpringbells · 29/09/2023 19:13

There is no way Ovestin will make your fibroids grow.

It's not absorbed systemically and using it 2 x a week for a year is the same amount of estrogen as a 1mg daily dose of HRT.

HughCanoe · 29/09/2023 19:30

They have to prise Ovestin out of my hands - my bits are much improved 😁

Sunset88 · 29/09/2023 19:58

OK, thanks everyone. Good to know.

I tried Replens and it was completely useless. My GP told me that it is indeed useless if you’re menopausal.
