How do I know when to increase Oestrogel

Hi all. I am fairly new to HRT and have been on it since April/May time. Use Oestrogel and am on two pumps in the morning. I noticed an imense difference after only a couple of days on it. Energy came back like someone had flipped a switch. Mood balanced soon after. Brain fog started to lift as well but now it is like the fatigue is creeping back and my mood. Wow. The quick to loose patience and anger is rearing its head again as well. So naturally I am wondering whether to increase the oestrogel and whether three pumps is the way forward. Just wondering what exeriences others have had?

You can increase up to 4 I believe. Have you got a medication review due ?

MagpiePi · 26/09/2023 14:13

2 is the absolute minimum dose which everyone starts on, so it is not going to be unusual if it is not the right dose for you.

I gradually increased to 4 pumps after about 5 or 6 months as I was getting symptoms returning - the most obvious being night sweats. I didn't go back to the GP as I am sure they would have just said 'give it a go and see how you feel'. They were happy to increase my prescription to cover the increased amount, so I don't think they were worried.

@NoMoreLimbo are you just on the oestrogel because you have had a hysterectomy?

Guidance is to review with your GP at 3 months and annually. It’s symptom led, so if yours are creeping back, discuss 3 pumps with your GP and review again after 3 months, and you’ll need your record updated as you’ll need more gel prescribed. It’ll last approx 21 days.

@Kat1122 I have a Mirena too for the progesterone side of things.

@RMom03 ah! I was not aware it should be reviewed. My GP was basically ’there you go and rushed me out the door’. So, @DustyLee123 yes it appears I am due a review!

@MagpiePi that makes more sense. Two friends have just increased from two pumps to three.

A friends boobage grew exponentially though on increased oestrogen. So hoping that won’t happen.

@NoMoreLimbo The great thing about the gel is you can tweak when necessary. Defo go upto 3 pumps and see how you feel. How is your sleep? magnesium butter is great for a good nights sleep. That can help with your mood. The menopause road will never stay the same, it will more often that not require tweaking along the way.
