Extreme fatigue

I'm really struggling with fatigue.. I used to be able to juggle life and somehow had the energy! Now I'm really having issues with fatigue and I'm convinced it's yet another wave related to the menopause. I can sit in a chair - start reading Mumsnet and literally fall asleep within minutes. 😬 I've no motivation for life if I'm honest. So much so I've had a conversation with the doctor and have a full blood test investigation booked for later this week. I feel completely flat about life! I've tons to be doing at home, a busy job that needs me to be on the ball and two pre-teens.. just no fecking energy for it all. Anyone else had this? It's a new one on me and has been slowly creeping up on me.

I came here looking for a post like this! I hear you rockingbird. For the last month or so I have been so tired. I usually just get on with things but just feel so sluggish. Early nights don't help. Have never felt so genuinely fatigued.

I just feel like a lump. My concentration is shot. I've done next to nothing in work for the last few days as I'm struggling to focus on my screen or deal with anything that isn't urgent. Low mood to boot.

I had bloods done but have struggled to get back to the docs to talk over the results. But think I need help from work and GP - just doesn't feel like I'm going to snap out if this on my own.

Yes extreme fatigue here and got my bloods done and requested full Thyroid check and have underactive thyroid. Am also on hrt but this extreme tiredness is beyond anything ever experienced in my life. Just pure drained and no energy to do anything. Have started on low dose of medication for thyroid as they have to build it up slowly and will get bloods checked again in November to see how they are and maybe up the dose. Between that and menopause am drained. Ask doctor for full bloods and specifically for thyroid and explain how you are just exhausted and cannot function. Hope this helps and wish all the women feeling the same some hope and energy as feel very isolated at the moment and just sadness.

I know people are going to roll their eyes at this. But I will say it anyway. I was like this. To the point where I couldn’t put one foot in front of the other. They did test and found nothing. Just said menopause.

avout a month ago I was told that I had a bad gallbladder. And I could only eat foods that were 3% fat in 100g or under. So I ended up on a diet of just fruit veg and meat. Within a week. My tiredness had gone. I thought it was a fluke. And I had some bread. And the next day felt awful.

after reading up on all of the process foods and sugar I learnt about how they effect the body. I have never felt better. Again most people roll their eyes at me and say that’s boring. But I was napping once a day and I could barely walk some days I was so tired.

Thanks for you responses ladies, kind of comforting to know I'm not alone but at the same time you have my sympathy! The doctor mention thyroid so assume that's being tested for.. I actually emailed work today and said I needed some time out as I'm just not feeling 100% something I've never done ever! Naturally this rung alarm bells and my boss was straight on the phone, I've been open and honest and said I'm just meh.. no significant changes in home/life in recent months but I'm just over a year since leaving my H and I worry the fight/flight has lifted and I've come crashing down..! 🫣 we will see what the blood tests show up. I feel lost.!!

Sorry to hear you have been through so much, stress can be the worst and take some iron and b vitamins, I was told to today by menopause doctor to help my energy. Be kind to yourself and once get bloods checked out go from there. Things will get better and hopefully we all get our energy back. Best wishes to all and op you have done the hard part and it takes time to recharge also and look after yourself xx

Littlemissmagnet · 20/09/2023 22:45

Get bloods done. Iron or thyroid comes to mind.

rockingbird · 21/09/2023 12:09

Well.. bloods done this morning, results back next Tuesday - anything concerning and I'll be getting a call 😬 kind of freaked me out! The nurse did say they are testing for a lot of things including B12, Thyroid, Liver, Iron and so on. I'm feeling better for just taking the initiative to do something about it but the wait will no doubt cause me to worry a little.

Hope it goes well. Put it out of your mind till Tuesday. u have done everything u can enjoy the weekend x

colouringindoors · 28/09/2023 14:14

Did your results show anything OP? I'm feeling similarly exhausted and thinking menopause as its totally cyclical. So drained today even after 10 hrs sleep 🙄

rockingbird · 28/09/2023 16:38

@colouringindoors I called Tuesday and was told to chase up again Friday as not all the results had been 'looked at' I'm convinced something is going to be flagged up as I refuse to believe I'm just knackered all the time like this. That said I'm now struggling to actually stay asleep 😴 I've suffered some quite big changes over the past year and now our beloved dog has had to be pts as she was very poorly 😢 if I'm honest it's the last straw for me. I hadn't anticipated the grief that's hit me this week.. it's certainly taken the edge off the wait for these results!!

oh @rockingbird I'm so sorry to hear that. Lots of stress followed by a significant bereavement is a Lot. Hope you can take things easy.

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 28/09/2023 22:50

So sorry about your dog, horrible for you as have a dog and know they are like our babies and understand the grief and sadness you must be feeling. Try to take comfort that you gave your lovely dog a great life and in time it will get easier. Take care and be kind to yourself.

rockingbird · 07/10/2023 10:47

Can you believe I'm still waiting for my test results. Called last Friday to be told they hadn't been looked at yet.. call again in a week. Called yesterday and they've still not been looked at. 😬 I'm still feeling bad and I'm no nearer to finding out why. I do have private healthcare so have decided to explore this option next week.

That’s ridiculous. Can you book an appointment and get them looked at while you are there. Or complain to the practice manager. Most basic blood screens are back quickly.

It’s great you can access the private healthcare though

NannyGythaOgg · 07/10/2023 12:39

Ask for a copy of your results. With this you get your readings next to the range. Often doctors say no treatment because everything is 'within range'. For such things as iron, ferritin, B12, D, etc, many need to be in the top half of the range to feel well. None of them need a prescription

Bananas1350 · 07/10/2023 13:54

Do u have the nhs app? Your results will be on there. I know mine are. And they are there before my doctor got them.

rockingbird · 13/10/2023 09:57

I thought I'd report back, very low folic acid and prescribed tablets. Further tests requested for coeliac disease 😬 given certain other symptoms being discussed. I'll pick up the tablets today and see if there is an improvement.. I sincerely hope so!
