Panic attacks whilst asleep

Now I’m waking up with panic attacks during the night. Heart racing, chest hurting. On top of upset tummy, wobbly arms and legs, muscle pains, pins and needles. I’m terrified this can’t just be menopause because it’s so severe.

Honestly I’ve been so worried about other symptoms that I didn’t even think about heavy periods or Mirena. My back is killing, I have pins and needles in my arms and legs. I’m shitting myself that it’s serious and I’m going to die and leave my child. I’m aching, upset stomach, panic attacks because I’m so afraid. The period thing faded into the background.

Heavy periods

Find out about heavy periods (called menorrhagia) and how to treat them if they are affecting your daily life.

Many of your symptoms are perhaps caused by your anaemia (which is being caused by heavy periods.)

The tummy upset can be caused by the iron supplements.

Thank you @JinglingSpringbells. Your advice has given me a moment of calm where I can think maybe I’m not seriously ill. It’s so scary. I want to believe it’s just hormones, vitamins and anxiety, but I’m struggling because the symptoms are so bad, surely it can’t possibly just be that.

Can you recall when the back pain started @Sugarcoatt ?

Gettingbysomehow · 12/09/2023 12:51

I started getting night panic attacks in my 60's and yesterday I had one at work during the day which has never happened before.
I've had blood tests and levels of everything done and I'm perfectly healthy.
Work is fine.
I can't think of any reason why this is happening but it's really nasty.

I had a very anxious time last Christmas. That’s when I started having a tummy upset, chest pain and aching all over. But the very severe back pain with pins and needles only began in the last couple of weeks. My anxiety is telling me it’s a degenerative disease that has been slowly getting worse all year. Medical professionals just keep saying it’s anxiety and vitamins.

Low seratonin levels in my case post pregnancy

@Sugarcoatt The only way to diagnose your back pain is an Xray. If it's come out of the blue and not linked to exercise, posture, etc, it needs investigating.

Can I make a suggestion?

Make a list of all your symptoms. Go to your GP and discuss them. Don't faff around with a nurse.
Make a list of all peri symptoms you have.
If you want to, ask for HRT.

If you have had low estrogen for years (which is possible for various reasons, like missed periods, low body weight, use of certain meds, family history of early menopause)) you could have a fracture of your vertebra. You need an Xray and bone density scan to diagnose that.

Basically you need a full MOT.

I think lots of us underestimate just how much hormones affect everything.

Well you need a scan. Could be sciatica unrelated to your other issues.
