What happens when you stop HRT?

HRT replaces the hormones you are losing, so what happens when you stop taking it? Do you get all the symptoms then, so taking HRT is just delaying it?

They say that peri symptoms are the fluctuations on hormones and once hormones settle the symptoms are meant to go.

You don't have to come off HRT - you can stay on it for life. The symptoms don't go away, nor do the missing hormones magically come back.

@JaiynDough You have to wait and see! All women are different.

You don't have to stop HRT. You can stay on it forever till you're 90.

You might get symptoms back once you stop.

HRT doesn't 'delay' anything. If your symptoms 'come back' you'd have had those symptoms anyway all the years when you used HRT.
HRT treats symptoms.

@Christine0708 That isn't true. Some women find their symptoms are worse in peri when hormones fluctuate a lot but many women find they still have symptoms for life - around 10- 15% so specialists say.

Also the 'unseen' symptoms of loss of estrogen never go away- bone density loss for example- just gets worse.

Nothing happens, I've just come off mine after 15 years. You can't just stop it dead you need to wean yourself off.
